The Path of the Mystic is Lonely

If we look for others to share our spiritual path

Many times we go through life alone inside our heads. I have been feeling this way lately, like I have so much of my life going on inside me that no one sees. Like maybe the truest part of myself is living alone in silence.

How do you bring the part of yourself that is real out into the light? How do you find honesty with the people around you? How do you find a sense of belonging and feel like you fit?

Maybe you ask yourselves these questions. I know that I do.

I find a sense of belonging through my writing. I can connect with like-minded people all across the world. I can open up my heart and speak my truth without being afraid.

When we are so afraid, we can’t be ourselves. We have to learn how to love ourselves so that we don’t have to be afraid anymore. We have to stop fearing the darkness, the light, and everything in between.

Sometimes we fear the dark. We fear all the things that are wrong with us.

Other times we fear the light. We fear being successful and happy because we feel like we don’t deserve it.

We fear both the best and the worst inside ourselves, so we end up living somewhere in the middle. The parts of ourselves that are the least controversial. The parts of ourselves that are the norm and that are socially acceptable.

We cut off the worst in ourselves, but we cut off the best too.

We cut off our sadness but also our love.

When we cut off anything about ourselves, we are cutting off everything. We are making separate compartments inside ourselves because of lack of acceptance. The more we learn how to accept and love ourselves, we will be able to come full circle. We can embrace both our darkness and our light, instead of living in shades of gray.

Who wants to walk into their fear with me? Who wants to stare it in the face and say, “not anymore?”

Facing our fears about parts of ourselves can help us to find healing.

This year I am on a spiritual journey. Going deeper into myself and into my own spiritual nature. I am seeking for the Truth. Whatever that truth may be.

I am trying to find love and acceptance for myself, and a deeper belief in the divine within all of us. I am looking to dissolve into the mysteries of life’s heart. I want to become the boundless drop in the boundless ocean.

The way of the mystic can often be a lonely one, as it is a journey inward.

However, in the words of Rumi,

“Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you.”

We are all parts of this endless oneness with all life and all nature, and with each other. There is a divine spark in everyone. When you look at someone, you can see the universe reflected in their face.

We are all spiritual beings, but not all of us remember this nature.

How do we forget the truth of ourselves? And how is it that through this sense of longing, some of us begin to remember?

Since the mystic journey is a journey of aloneness, should we stop trying to find others on the path? Or do we just find them through coincidence?

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. ~Matthew 6:33

Trust yourself, trust the universe, trust in love. When you are on the path of the Soul, the Soul is walking with you already unseen. On the journey of yourself, YOU are there all along.

Perhaps we don’t need to walk a path at all. Perhaps all we need to do is stop and look into the mirror and see ourselves there.
