Summary

The web content is a reflective poem titled "The Path," which uses ten specific words in a 75-word composition, accompanied by a brief contextual introduction and acknowledgments.

Abstract

The poem "The Path" is presented as a creative response to a writing challenge that required the incorporation of ten predetermined words into a concise 75-word poem. The author, Walker, shares the struggle of crafting this piece, mentioning the creation of multiple drafts before settling on the final version. The poem itself metaphorically describes a journey, possibly an internal one, where the presence of butterflies signifies the delicate beginning of this path. The narrative touches on the absence of clear direction, the fear of stepping into the unknown, and the resolve to embrace freedom. The poem emphasizes the importance of perception, the rejection of superficial comfort, and the commitment to forge one's own path. The author acknowledges the difficulty of the challenge and humbly presents the work, inspired by another writer, Adelia Ritchie, and her piece "Maintaining Hope." The poem is illustrated with an image from Park Güell, and the author extends gratitude to the readers, signing off with "Kind Regards" in February 2022.

75 WORDS

The Path

Taking the first step

A butterfly and several friends Have made their homes within How delicate their flutters feel As they insist that I begin.

Few signs stand posted by the path, No visible decree. An awful sense of misgiving But I choose now to be free

As footsteps ring against hard walls A move towards exception Echoes linger on the mind And thoughts move to perception To avoid unjust reduction And reject pleasant seduction

Welcome, to the world.

This poem was written as a response to the challenge of incorporating the ten words in bold into a poem with 75 words.

I have to agree this was quite the challenge. I don’t hold this as one of my stronger works and wrangled several drafts before deciding to just release it into the wild.
