REVIEW

The Palm Springs Movie Is an Incredible Piece of Writing

Time loops sound fun but I’ve written this at least a thousand times and can’t think of a good subtitle

Image from Palm Springs Movie

I heard from a friend saying the character Niles in the Hulu movie Palm Springs reminded them of me. Then…

I didn’t write that. How could I? I can’t go back on Quora. They banned me permanently. I never even knew that question existed. I still don’t.

How was I supposed to know watching Palm Springs would create a time loop for me? It sucks living in a never ending loop of a 108 degree Los Angeles day in August. If I did it all over again, I would have waited until this coming October or November to watch this movie.

My creator is notorious for borrowing devices from other writers and media. As soon as I finished watching that movie I knew I was screwed.

I need to learn something to escape the time loop. Maybe if I write the perfect review of Palm Springs. I definitely need this review to be published and curated. (Help me curators! You’re my only hope!)

If we follow the examples of other movies that have explored the concept of a time loop like Groundhog’s Day or Edge of Tomorrow, it could be finding true love that frees me. Perhaps I’ll need to overcome something or someone to find my exit.

Palm Springs takes a similar path… or does it?

The Protagonist Niles and I were cut from the same mold. We are both fun loving slackers unhappy with their current reality who have the talent to do anything but are seemingly satisfied doing nothing. He and I use humor to disguise our self loathing and apathy that we think are glaringly obvious. The sad truth is nobody cares about us because we don’t care about ourselves.

The antagonist is stuck in the time loop with Niles. His adversary didn’t ask to repeat the same day for eternity. Niles selfishly dragged him in because he is lonely but vows never to make the same mistake. He’s so damn charismatic that people naturally follow him. On accident he brings a third person into reliving the same day for eternity.

I’ve watched this movie with the same friend a thousand times and every time is the first time for her. Though even before this she can’t remember the movies she’s already watched. I wonder if my dog is stuck in this mobius strip existence too. Is she also reliving the same day? I’m trying to devise a test to check. If any of you quantum mechanics guys have any ideas please leave a note.

Should I be trying to find true love? Online dating besides on Tinder is out and I’ve already had sex with every prostitute in Los Angeles even before I got stuck in this loop. I’ve had sex with a few neighbors, also before I got stuck. Maybe I need to try killing or screwing one or more. But there are only families in our community pool and it’s too damn hot to do anything besides swim.

I can’t say enough good things about this movie. The possibility of you getting stuck in a loop as well is worth it. Incredible writing. It’s the first good hard sci-fi movie to have a satisfying love story in it too.

Palm Springs is the greatest sci-fi romcom I’ve seen. It might be the first one to exist. Two thumbs up. 10/10. It’s that damn good.

If you are also stuck on August 16, 2020 leave me a note. I know how lonely it is doing this all by yourself.
