The Painted Rocks

The things we see and the ones we don’t

An Easter basket in the middle of summer? I blurted out after my friend Bryn spotted them in the front lawn of a house towards the end of our run.

“Painted rocks!”

The intricate, detailed design made me think of the Romanian hand-painted Easter eggs.

And just like this artist used blue, purple, green, and pink colors coalescing in the front yard art, my fellow Romanians painted the eggs in red to symbolize love and solar light, black for eternity, yellow for rich crops, green for nature, and blue to symbolize health and sunny skies.

“I’m so glad you stopped me to see this exquisite rock art,” I told Bryn.

“Well, I was debating whether to stop our run, but I knew you would enjoy this,” she said.

“You’re a great friend,” I replied.
