The Pain of Sharing Your Work on Facebook
The follow-for-follow and clap-for-clap mill

Like many of us Medium newbies, I often go to Facebook Medium groups to post my work — in search of feedback.
But I don’t want you to follow unless you like my writing. And I don’t want your claps unless you like my story/post.
These medium groups, even the ones that claim to be for genuine writers, have become nothing but mills for followers and claps. But that does nothing to improve your skill, nothing to improve your story, nothing to improve your style.
Where are the groups that have real people willing to give you honest feedback? What did you like about my story? What didn’t you like? What could be better? What shocked you, impressed you, moved your heart? Where are the flaws in my writing? Did I mess up with spelling or grammar? Is it good enough to become a novel? Why? Why not?
Hopefully, I’m not alone in this. Writing should be a craft, something improved over time, like fine wine and aged whiskey. Not some cheap gas station boxed wine.
We will see with time… these Facebook groups might not be the right way to promote my writing and get feedback. If anyone has some tips on how to best get feedback (without shelling out tons of money to editors), please let me (and the Medium world) know!
If you enjoy reading my content, consider subscribing to my feed. Also, if you are not a Medium member and you would like to gain unlimited access to the platform, consider using my referral link right here to sign up. It’s $5 a month and you get unlimited access to my articles and many others like mine. Thank you! :)
If you would like to follow me on social media (a work in progress as of 1/26/22), I will not only be posting links to my Medium work, but will also be providing updates on my first in progress Fantasy novel that I hope to have published in 2023, and my series of short stories in 2022.
