The Other Side

Thursday transformational storytelling.

Happy Thursday everyone!

It took quite some Internet surfing to find this week’s story because the key words I was googling were…Not the most accurate for what I was looking for. After several failed attempts, I remembered the word “Zen” and found this website within minutes:

Thank you, memory, for saving my sorry ass again. If you’re looking for something new to explore, definitely check out that website. You will come across the story I’m about to share as well as many other parables and tales.

One day, a young Buddhist, on his journey home, came to the banks of a wide river. Staring hopelessly at the great obstacle in front of him, he pondered for hours on how to cross such a wide barrier.

Just as he was about to give up his pursuit to continue his journey, he recognized one of his great teachers on the other side of the river.

The young Buddhist yelled over to the teacher:

“Oh wise one, can you tell me how to get to the other side of this river”?

The teacher pondered for a moment, looked up and down the river and yelled back:

“My son, you are on the other side”.

Thoughts, feelings, opinions? I am still processing it. All I can say at this moment is that I think we embody both the young Buddhist and the teacher within us (but more about that in a separate article).

If the story resonates with you and you end up writing and submitting something in response to it, please remember to use “storytelling” as one of the tags to make sure it shows up under the Storytelling tab on the publication.

Or feel free to just leave some feedback to this article.

Or just reflect and ponder.

Whatever you choose, enjoy!
