The Opinion Of My Characters Is Not My Opinion
Not every reader understands that. Sooner or later, you will get a review in which you are held responsible for something one of your characters says or does.
As writers, we have to put ourselves radically in our characters’ shoes to present them credibly. If I let a racist or misogynist speak in a story, I can’t censor his words. He has to say things I detest because my characters are not the mouthpiece of my world view.
If your readers don’t understand that, you have to explain it to them.
