The Journey of Your Life
The One Word Poem

you remain always in the mist, walking towards me, your umbrella unfurled.
Transparent, mirrored as your eyes and the smile of rain. It is not the rain, it is not your umbrella. It is not you.
(you disappear) which is better.
I am not concerned with your umbrella, I am concerned with the sheer mania in you and the way you are considered as an endangered species, or a plaything of drunken youths, or even worse yet, a human scapegoat. The fact that all these things have been written about you only proves that what you are is not something easily described and perhaps would be impossible to understand without experiencing it for oneself. You are so insubstantial, so invisible, that you are constantly on the verge of disappearing. Just like the rain, which is simply not stopped by your umbrella.
The One Word Poem
both in its prosaic and poetic variations is a poem with a single word as the title or subject matter. These poems are usually extremely short, ranging from one to four lines. The brevity of these poems is, at times, their strength, although the fact that they have only one word can also be a severe limitation.
When dealing with such brevity, the poet has to attend to language with great care and precision; this is especially true when considering tone and rhythm, which cannot be sacrificed for meaning or symbolism. No small task for any poet to accomplish.
