The One Thing I Did Early This Year That Made My Whole Year
You don’t have to wait until the end of the year to achieve all your goals
You have probably made some new year’s resolutions and working towards them.
In some cases, most of these resolutions have already died with January. It’s not surprising that we make such big goals at the start of the year, only for them to slip off the plate before the end of the first month.
You might think you have to wait until mid-year or the end of the year to achieve your annual goals, but it doesn’t have to be so. You can achieve your yearly goals right from the start of the year. You have to grab some of the easy goals to achieve quick wins.
I have a few goals for this year, but these are goals that will take some time to achieve as I have broken them down into pieces of work.
But there is one thing I achieved this year that has made my year.
So, what was it?
I got the domain name I have sought for a long time.
Why is this important to me?
Although, I had another variant of the domain name previously. However, I thought of having the .com, as this variant seems more popular.
I had tried buying this domain name earlier but realised it wasn’t available as it was registered to someone else. Since it was a reasonably new registrar, I decided to hang around and watch it.
I set alerts via GoDaddy’s domain monitoring back order to monitor the domain status. I got the domain once I realised it was expired and was available for sale.
You may wonder why I had to go through this for a simple domain name, right?
I will tell you.
#1. Online Presence
We now live in a world ruled by technology. Everything is online. Gone are the days when domain names and websites are associated with businesses or prominent figures in society. These days, anyone can have their own domain and website on the internet to improve their brand.
#2. Identity
My name is unique to me. It is my identity. I want to be in control of what search engines index about me. Therefore, it’s crucial for me to have complete control over this. I encourage you to secure your domain name to have more control over your online identity.
#3. Showcase My Work
As a Career Advisor and Data Scientist, I need a repository for my work. Some sites offer you a repository to showcase your work, but it’s still vital for you to own your domain name and set up your website.
It’s also great to have your personal website if you are job haunting to stand out from the competition. In today’s job market, it’s not enough to simply have a resume and cover letter — you need to have an online presence as well. Having a personal website shows that you are tech-savvy and willing to go the extra mile to get noticed.
Should you do this as well?
Yes, absolutely! Before someone tries to sell your name to you for $10,000.
Personal branding is becoming more and more critical, and we are now begging to value the importance of the internet in our lives. You are unique, and so is your name. There may be other people who are the same as you, but the most important thing is your identity; it represents you.
Therefore, I encourage you to grab your own domain name today. It would only cost you about $20 per year, but it can make all the difference to your life and work.

You don’t have to wait until the end of the year to achieve some of your goals.
Understandably, most of our goals will take a series of steps and time to achieve; however, some low-hanging goals will make you happy and boost your dopamine levels to achieve more.
It was getting a domain name for my name, even though I had an existing version for my website.
So, look through your list, and find the low-hanging goals to crush immediately. If you can’t find any, I recommend you head to GoDaddy or any other domain registrar and grab your domain name. Remember to put up a website as well.
You can always find another variant, .net, .me if your name is popular and someone else already has it developed.
