The Old Man And The Irreplaceable Broken Glass: A Lesson In Moving Forward
In a bustling city, an old man carried a load of glassware on his head, each piece representing a challenge. When one glass fell and shattered, he continued without pause. This tale teaches a valuable lesson: sometimes, it’s wiser to leave broken pieces behind. Read on to discover the power of letting go and moving forward.

An old man was carrying a big pile of glassware on his head to sell in the city. As he was walking, he tripped and a glass slipped out of the pile and fell to the ground, breaking into pieces.
The old man kept walking at the same pace as if nothing had happened. A passerby saw this and ran to the old man and said, “Uncle! You may not know, but one of your pots has fallen off the pile and broken.”
The old man continued walking without slowing down. “Son, I know,” he said.
The passerby was surprised and said, “Uncle! If you know, why didn’t you stop?”
The old man replied, “Son, it’s useless to stop for something that has already fallen and broken. If I had stopped, I would have put the pile down on the ground, picked up the broken piece, which can no longer be repaired, looked at it with regret, and then put the pile back on my head. In doing so, I would have wasted my time, caused some other damage while putting down and picking up the pile, and ruined the business I had to do in the city due to regret and sorrow. Son, I have saved a lot by leaving the broken glass there.”
In our lives, there are some problems, misunderstandings, losses, and misfortunes that are just like broken glass that we should forget and move on from.
Why?
Because they are burdens that:
- Slow you down
- Increase your difficulty
- Bring new problems and troubles for you
- Take away your smile
- Destroy your motivation and desire to move forward
Therefore, learn to forget your problems, misfortunes, and losses and move on.
Moral of the story
It is important to learn to let go of the past, especially the negative experiences. Holding on to past hurts and anger can only hold us back from moving forward and living a happy and fulfilling life.
