The Official emoshitstorm Music Questionnaire — Kylie P Edition
THE OFFICIAL emoshitstorm MUSIC QUESTIONNAIRE
Okay, Lora — no laughing at my poor taste in music! 🤣
What song gets you out of a funk? Why? Is there a memory attached to this song?
I’m Still Standing — Elton John.
It’s the catchy beat and the ‘fluff-you’ to those who have tried to squish me under their big, stupid, steel-capped boots! 👢
What song fuels your rage? Do you avoid it or seek it out?
One — the Mary J. Blige, U2 version.
Something about this song just hits me in the feels. I find it powerful (or maybe it’s just Mary J. Blige’s incredible voice). I definitely seek out my angry songs when I need to blow off steam. 😤
What song motivates you creatively and why?
Right in the Night (Fall in Love with Music) — Jam and Spoon
There’s not just one song. I have a whole Spotify list dedicated to the book I’m writing that is filled with songs that have motivated or inspired me. The songs vary and change depending on what scene I’m writing at the time.
Right in the Night was maybe the first song that inspired me when I first started writing my book.
When I hear a song that resonates with one of my characters, I dream up how the scene plays out, then write it fuelled by the emotion I feel whilst listening to that particular song. 🎶🎼🎙
What song can you ONLY listen to when you’re feeling bummed?
Unbreak My Heart — Toni Braxton
This song is from way back in my past. I played it over and over on repeat when I had my heart broken (no Spotify back then kids)! My choices were whatever CDs I owned, or the radio, and that was it.
It’s cringeworthy to think about now! Sitting in my room playing this song on repeat while messy, ugly crying until my eyes ran dry. (Cue blushing face — why is there no blushing emoji)? 😭
This song inspired the biggest cry-fest from me, and once it was all out of my system, I moved on (music therapy)!
What song should you NOT listen to when you’re feeling down? Explain.
Mad World — Gary Jules, Michael Andrews
This song is too deep and tempting for my inner darkness. It welcomes despondency with open arms. Something is comforting in the softness of this song, but it’s like a spark to an emotional flame! 🌎 🔥
What song would you play for your inner child to dance to? Why?
Freaks — Timmy Trumpet, Savage
This song triggers my inner child. I like to sing it while chasing my daughter around the house like I’m a ‘freak’ coming to get her. That probably sounds creepier than it is!
It’s really just a game where I chase her while singing this song and she squeals and runs away laughing. (Yes, I see now that I’m a big kid myself). The beat and energy of this song always adds a little perk to my step. 😜
What is your favorite “instant nostalgia” song? I.e., when you first heard it, you could’ve sworn you’d heard it before already. Why do you think it makes you feel that way?
Tainted Love — Soft Cell
It’s not so much the song, but the memories attached to it. This was my favourite ‘Time Warp’ song back in my clubbing days. I used to frequent a nightclub called ‘Heaven’ where I had a crush on the DJ.
Every week I would request this song until eventually I ‘hooked’ my love interest. Strangely, the song could have been a prediction! 😂🤦♀️
What song reminds you of love, however you define it? Try defining it, for funsies!
The Rose — Bette Midler
I think this song showcases that love means something different to everyone. Love comes in all shapes and sizes and can be as unique as a fingerprint.
We all feel and experience love in different ways. I find so much beauty in this song, just as there is so much beauty to be found in love. 🌹💗
What song would your best friend be surprised that you love and why? No best friend? Your mom, your cat, your plant, that coworker who calls you Lisa will suffice.
Sadly, I don’t think anything I do surprises my friends anymore! They expect to not know what to expect! Maybe Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber? 🤔
What song relaxes you when you’re feeling anxious? What do you think it is about that song?
In Too Deep — Genesis
No idea why, I just like it at the moment and it’s the latest song to connect with my book, so I feel relaxed and in ‘creative’ mode when I hear it.
What was your Covid anthem? How do you feel about it now? Didn’t have one? Are you a human with two ears and a heart?
Blinding Lights — The Weekend
Not particularly a Covid anthem I suppose, but it’s the song I loved around the time of Covid so I played it a lot. I still like the song and listen to it from time to time.💡
*Bonus question for the teacher’s pets out there who want that sweet, sweet extra credit!
— When you listen to music, how much do the lyrics matter to you?
A whole lot! I connect with music by singing along and vibing from the lyrics. I like the actual music too, but I don’t feel as connected to music without words. Probably because I never shut up! I can’t sing along and torment my family if there are no words!
