It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of Mrs. Hortense Gonzalves. She had been struggling with a long illness but was surrounded by many of her foster children and neighbors throughout.

Mrs. Gonzalves was well known throughout the region for her superb cooking and outstanding generosity. Although her dear husband, Emilio Gonzalves, had passed away many years ago she continued to take in foster children, providing many unfortunate children with a stable, loving home. Mr. Gonzalves had been injured in the war and it was a great sadness for him and Mrs. Gonzalves not to be able to have children of their own. Those who knew the family felt that they turned their own misfortune into great good fortune for the many foster children who grew up in their home.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, at Our Lady of Perpetual Forgiveness on Baldwin Street. Kindly remember that parking is limited due to the current reconstruction of Baldwin Street so consider using public transportation.
