The Obituaries of January*
Mr. and Mrs. Garson and Pamela Jamison… January 2, 1943, and March 17, 1945 — January 30, 2020

Our office received word earlier today that Mr. and Mrs. Garson Jamison are among the dead in this morning’s tragic ferry sinking in the Suez Canal. The ferry was en route from Port Saied to Port Fauad and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
Mr. and Mrs. Jamison were seasoned world travelers having sold their home near Austin, Texas and Mr. Jamison’s highly successful import business in 2013. They were interviewed at the time in The Daily Texan at that time as Mr. Jamison’s company, Eastern Treasures Import Export, Inc., had been bought by Amazon for an undisclosed amount. Both expressed enthusiasm about now having the freedom to travel as much as they wanted.
If Austin Texas had royalty, it would have been Garson and Pam Jamison. Both of their families could trace their roots back to the 1830s when the first Anglo-Americans settled in what was then called Waterloo, Texas. In 1839 Waterloo became Austin and Austin became the capital of The Republic of Texas. The two met while pursuing their advanced degrees at The University of Texas. Mr. Jamison earned his MBA and Ms. Pamela Wright earned her Masters of Science in computer science. Their wedding in 1965 was the social event of that June.
Having built his company into a formidable competitor in the import/export business, Mr. Jamison made the decision to sell and step away from the business world in 2012. When the “secret” buyer turned out to be Amazon, it was generally understood that the Jamisons would never have to work again.
World travel was a shared passion and the two had journeyed to four continents on business over the years but now they were free to go anywhere they chose. The Jamisons never had children and it was something that Mrs. Jamison preferred not to talk about. It’s unknown if it was a choice or if they weren’t able to have children but in a town like Austin, it caused some amount of talk. The Jamisons never seemed to worry about that and even less so once the deal was closed and they sold out and left Austin for good.
The couple was in Egypt for their fifth prolonged visit as both were extremely fond of Cairo and had cruised numerous times various sections of the Nile. They were scheduled to be leaving Egypt in a week’s time and were said to be bound for Thessaloniki in Greece with a planned side trip up to Kyiv, Ukraine for the spring and summer.
They are survived by several nieces and nephews and funeral arrangements will be announced soon. Even though the couple had been away from Austin for years, they will be missed for many years to come. The bodies will be flown back to Austin for burial at St. James Episcopal Church on Webberville Road.
