Ms. Denise Meyers…… November 18, 1962 — January 25, 2020
The family of Marie and Taylor Anderson of Springfield are sad to announce the death of Marie’s mother, Ms. Denise Meyers. Ms. Meyers was a long-time resident of Arlington Township and will be sorely missed in the community.
Ms. Meyers died suddenly while visiting the Andersons and the cause of death has yet to be determined.
Denise Meyers grew up in this area but moved away during her years in college and lived and worked in the military as a therapist for many years. She and Mr. Ronald Meyers met during her time working at Ft. Pendleton where he served as one of the base chaplains. They married and started their family in California. When their daughters, Marie and Amy were in middle school, both left their positions in the military and moved back to Arlington Township. They built their own house, a sprawling split-level, on three acres of land four miles from Springfield when Mr. Meyers was hired to serve as the reverend at Richardson Memorial Methodist Church in town.
Both Ronald and Denise became very active in local activities and were a reliable presence at charity events. Mr. Meyers was vocal in his anti-war sentiments which occasionally put him at odds with certain parishioners. After eight years he was asked to step down and shortly after that he and Ms. Meyers divorced.
Mr. Meyers now lives in Tallahassee, Florida and has remarried.
After the divorce, Ms. Meyers became even more active in supporting programs countering domestic violence and drug addiction. She was successful in building her practice in Springfield although she never remarried nor did she move from the family house in Arlington Township. Over the course of her career in our area, she became known as a warm, supportive professional who could be counted on for complete confidentiality.
