The Obituaries of January*
Ms. Leeanne Miles …… July 3, 1994— January 5, 2020

Ms. Leeanne Miles had been a reporter here at the Evanston Eagle for the past four years and it is with heavy hearts that the editorial staff announces her death early this morning of a brain aneurysm.
She was with her fiance, Mark Johnston, also of Evanston, when she collapsed and was rushed to Jenkins Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Ms. Miles grew up here in Evanston, her parents coming up from South Carolina in the early 1990s. Her father, Stewart Miles, worked construction and her mother, Darla Miles nee Wilson, taught math at Franklin Delano Roosevelt middle school. She is also survived by her two younger siblings, Amber Jane Davis and Ronald Miles. The three were close as children and Amber Jane fondly remembers Leeanne “interviewing” them for her pretend television show.
After earning her BA in English and her Masters in Journalism at Wade State University, Ms. Miles made the decision to return home and began working on the Features desk at the Evanston Eagle. In short order, she proved herself to be a formidable investigative journalist and was soon heading the political beat breaking big stories.
The family, including Mr. Johnston, are in shock and will be announcing details of the funeral and visiting hours soon. This is a terrible loss for our community and this newspaper.
