The Obituaries of January*
Ms. Aimee Devereaux…… June 3, 1999 — January 27, 2020

The family of Ms. Aimee Angeline Devereaux sadly announced the death of their beloved daughter and sister this morning. Ms. Devereaux had been diagnosed with a degenerative nerve disorder in her early teens but never allowed that to keep her from living her life to the fullest.
This included her attendance at Tulane University in New Orleans and earning her Bachelor of Science in molecular biology. Ms. Devereaux had next planned to attend medical school having excelled in her pre-med courses.
The Devereaux family has lived in Concordia Parish for generations and can trace their lineage back to pre-slavery days at the end of the 17th century. For the entire history of Louisianna, the Devereaux family maintained their status as free people of color and became renowned for establishing numerous schools in the surrounding parishes to educate newly freed slaves in the aftermath of the Civil War.
Her parents, Ivor and Lorraine Devereaux are noted professionals in the community. Mr. Devereaux has been the Director of the Foreign Languages Department at Louisiana State University at Alexandria since 2004 and Ms. Lorraine Devereaux established the House of Devereaux, a high couture destination for the best-dressed women in the South since 2010. The family includes Ms. Devereaux’s two sisters, Emily and Samantha, and twin brothers, Isaiah and Frederick. The family is devastated and is asking for privacy and respect at this difficult time.
Visiting hours will be held at St. Martin’s Funeral Chapel in Ferriday on Wednesday, January 29 from 1 pm to 3 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm. Services will be at St. Patrick’s on Florida Avenue this Friday at 11 am.
