Miss Gladiola Beansworth, known affectionately as Beanie but more formally as Miss Beansworth, Ma’am, taught English Composition and Deportment for forty years at the Goldenrod Day School in Essex. Miss Beansworth passed away peacefully in her armchair watching the evening news Tuesday last.

She was the only daughter of Jack and Marie Claire Beansworth. The young newly-weds left Mr. Beansworth’s father’s soybean farm in Bulgaria after The War to End All Wars. Miss Beansworth was a blessing who came to them later in life and was born right here in our own little Essex. The editor at the Essex Bee has reminded me that Mr. Beansworth’s actual family name prior to their arrival in Essex was Beenzwickiski so Miss Beansworth couldn’t have escaped that nickname regardless of circumstances.

Miss Beansworth never married, preferring to devote her time and energy to the betterment of the young ladies in and around Essex as well as to her garden which was the envy of all. She is survived by a niece, Ms. Alison Rayburn-Hattner, who lives with her husband and Pekinese, Waffles, in Sedgewick.

Donations to the Goldenrod Day School are being requested in honor of Miss Beansworth in lieu of flowers.
