Who else felt the hair stand up on their arms seeing Ewan McGregor reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi? The upcoming Disney+ series could be the best offering yet from the streaming service.

The Obi-Wan Series

Taking place what looks like about ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith the Empire is hunting down the last of the Jedi. Obi-Wan is still in hiding licking his wounds from his failures with his Padawan Anakin.

The Trailer

From the sand blowing across the rocks in the opening shot of the trailer to the lightsaber igniting the Disney+ logo at the end this trailer is doing its job. Raising my interest in this show exponentially.

From the trailer, we can see this will be a story about Obi-Wan still dealing with his past. A man haunted by what he feels he helped create. He resigns the rest of his life to watching over Luke and wasting away on the wasteland of a planet Tatooine. The Empire can’t allow a single Jedi to live so they search for him. Eventually drawing him out of hiding to face off with the Sith again.

Was that Darth Vader’s breathing we hear at the end? Unmistakable right? If Disney wants fans to lose their collective minds a lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader in the show would do the trick.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Hayden Christensen said:

"We’re going to see a very powerful Vader."

That quote alone is enough to excite the fan base. Many stories from books and comic books which are now not canon anymore tell stories of Vader during the time between the main and prequel trilogies. While this story isn’t about him fans will love to see him. The certainly epic and arguably most popular scene in all of Star Wars now, the Vader hallway scene from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is an indication of the Darth Vader people want to see more of. This is Lucasfilm’s chance to give fans more of that.

So much of this trailer feels invigorating. Exciting. It makes me want to see this show now. While May 4th, Star Wars Day, is the perfect day for this show to premiere, it leaves Star Wars fans everywhere overcome with anticipation.

Disney+

While The Mandalorian has held its own against the MCU shows thus far, with a small assist from The Book of Boba Fett(Thanks to Mando), this Obi-Wan show might be a game-changer.

Even with other popular Star Wars shows on the horizon like Ahsoka, this show is the one that needs to succeed.

This is a show fans asked for. A show fans have been waiting for from the first moment it was announced. If Obi-Wan Kenobi is the show we all hope it is it could go a long way in winning back Star Wars fans who were so sorely disappointed in the sequel trilogy.
