The NRA Is Buying Elections
According to the Democrats
They don’t want gun control
How much influence the National Rifle Association (NRA) has on the elections is up for debate. According to emails from various Democratic campaigns, the NRA is throwing money in by the buckets full to Republican candidates, including Donald Trump. They want to keep their gun rights advocates in power.
There are many close Senate and House races throughout the United States. Apparently the NRA is pumping money into the elections for Republicans because they don’t want more gun laws. They believe that Democrats want stricter gun laws to take away their guns. Democrats say they want reasonable gun reform measures.
Guns have caused major problems in the United States. Personally, I am not completely opposed to guns. I grew up on a farm in Utah. I have owned shotguns. My friends and I have gone hunting for birds and deer. I don’t hunt any longer, but I understand people’s feelings toward guns. Many of my friends still own guns and go hunting every year.
Guns have their place. Law enforcement needs to have guns. People can protect their families, homes, and property with guns. No one is trying to take away all guns from law abiding citizens.
A police officer speaking to a group of women about protecting themselves highly recommended that people keep a baseball bat by their bed if they are worried about intruders. He said having a gun there for protection can create very dangerous situations.
We would likely all admit that many lives have been needlessly taken with guns in the hands of the wrong parties. Criminals would probably find a way to get a gun even with stricter gun laws. There would still be accidental deaths such as children who get access to guns and kill someone without intending to do so. Gun control advocates are just trying to help keep people safer.
I had a friend who was a teenager when he accidentally shot his younger brother at home. The little boy died. The nightmare stayed with the friend his whole life. It should not have happened. People who do own guns need to protect their children from harm or death from guns.
Here is an explanation of gun laws from Wikipedia:
Gun laws and policies regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification and use of small arms by civilians. Laws of some countries may afford civilians a right to keep and bear arms, and have more liberal gun laws than neighboring jurisdictions. Countries which regulate access to firearms will typically restrict access to certain categories of firearms and then restrict the categories of persons who may be granted a license for access to such firearms. There may be separate licenses for hunting, sport shooting, self-defense, collecting, and concealed carry, with different sets of requirements, permissions, and responsibilities. [Wikipedia]
There are fewer people who own guns than those who do not. However, the NRA is a powerful force in society and in the elections. They support mostly Republicans who support them and gun ownership.
We will see soon how much influence they had in the U.S. elections.
