The Night That Changed Her
Abecedarian Poem
A seemingly ordinary night Binge drinking College Dorm room Escaping stress Friends Girlfriends Hanging out Inebriated Just Kids Letting loose. Michigan winters Not much else to do. Off to sleep Pushing through the crowd Quietly slipping away. RAPED! Startled Terrified Ultimate Violation. Voiceless. Wounded. Withdrawn. Xanax for survival. Years of therapy and healing towards a renewed Zest for life.
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), sexual violence on campus is pervasive with 11.2% of all college students experiencing rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation. The absence of ‘no’ does not mean ‘yes’.
