The Night Belongs to Medium, Not Michelob

A 30-day review of my commitment to being a better person, not just a better writer.

Beer by Billion Photos

Exactly one month ago, I published my second article on Medium. In the article, I shared how I made an allegiance to myself to commit to being a better person in 2022, which included putting myself first above all things.

Developing S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Bounded) goals for 2022, one of my objectives is checking back at the end of each month on how I am sticking to my mantras. I am the proud, unofficial spokesperson for change, gratitude, love, and alignment.

  1. The night belongs to Medium, not Michelob.

One of the first things I changed was how much idle time I have. Before December 30,2021, it was safe to say I consumed four to six liters of LBW (liquor, beer, and wine) within four days while I binge-watched streaming movies or television. I had no goals.

I didn’t have any drive or energy. I was constantly fantasizing about an unsuccessful past, and I was content with being complacent. Too many ideas were trapped in my head with no direction or focus.

That changed when I picked up the pen and started writing. Change has spurred some positive effects in my life. Medium was the first outlet allowing me to express myself and I haven’t looked back since.

2. The gratitude train keeps rolling.

I never realized the favorable effects of gratitude when given and received. Gratitude is not a one-sided quality. Saying, ‘thank you’, was never a problem for me, it had always been the action behind it.

When I concentrated on my second mantra, gratitude, I found myself writing about my appreciation for the simplest of things. I acquired a sense of freedom. My commitment to sharing my life experiences is bound to help someone who has similar circumstances, providing a push in the right direction.

3. The world isn’t always rainbows and unicorns.

Having a foundation of love and hope serves as a weapon when combating negative auras around you. This year’s focus on love and alignment in my life has put many things into perspective. I look at the bright side of things now, only giving the negative a once over for the purpose of reflection.

I close the chapter, then I move on.
