The Next Step in My Writing Journey, I’m Ready to Make the Leap

Swallow the fear, and do it anyway

I log on to my laptop and check my stats and earnings on Medium, I then wonder what I have to do to make money on the platform. I’m still not the greatest writer in the world, but I’m a lot better than I was when I started.

It took a change in mindset to get to where I’m at now. I’m no longer “ an aspiring writer,” I’m a writer. I’m not afraid to share things, and I’m not afraid of criticism.

Stepping into the market

I am now looking for paid writing opportunities outside of Medium. Last night, I signed up on the Writing Paychecks website. I would have never dreamed of taking that step two years ago.

Medium and the editors at Illumination are responsible for helping me make this step. Without Medium, I would not have progressed as fast as I have.

The best teachers I could ever ask for

Writing for Illumination Integrated Publications has been invaluable for me. I have learned so much from Dr. Yildiz and my fellow editors.

Of course, I want to earn money with my writing, but I decided long ago that I needed to change my attitude. I decided to work on being a better writer.

Learn to write before worrying about earning

With everything worthwhile, there’s a period of dues-paying. I am paying my dues and I’m learning the craft. This is why I write on Medium.

I write on Medium, and I continue to look for places to monetize my writing. My focus has changed from making money; to learning and growing as a writer.

Changing my focus has improved the quality of my writing, and there has been an increase in my earnings. I have finally put the horse before the cart.

Final Thought:

Take the long view with your writing. Try not to worry about the money. Improve at the craft of writing. Read a lot and write more. Listen to your heart. It will tell you when it’s time to take the next leap.
