The “New Choice” for 2024

October 27, 2024, will be the 60th Anniversary Of Reagan’s 1964 Speech known as “The Choice.” In November, we get to choose who is President.

In the (4 min. read) 1964 Speech, Reagan outlined exactly what was the choice that faced us…and we chose wrong.

As a “country,” we have mostly been sinking ever since at war with each other. This has allowed the “government” to lead us by the nose. And we, happily, have let them. Not only let them, we are asking for MORE!

Though this treatment of the people started with Woodrow Wilson in 1913, it has grown prolific roots that today feel impossible to cut. However, if we are to survive with our foundations intact, we must.

It is not a partisan choice; it’s an American choice. After saying “thank you” to the audience, Reagan announced, “I have spent most of my life as a Democrat. I recently have seen fit to follow another course. I believe that the issues confronting us cross party lines.” This is also true today.

Because of the “wrong choice made then,” today, we find ourselves in the same spot we were 60 years ago, except we have sunk deeper into the ideological divide and the belief that it is up to the government to “save us.”

WE MADE THE WRONG CHOICE THEN

We have had eleven presidents since 1964; the highlight in the midst of all these years was the end of the Soviet Union when Reagan was President and the firing of 11,359 Air Traffic Controllers who struck and had not returned to work in 1981. It was big news and the first time ever that an “Administrative State” three-letter agency component was laid off in mass.

No other President, Republican or Democrat, has had the courage to face the “Administrative State” and cut it to size. Instead, the ideological divide has only grown deeper and wider since then. Today, we don't know who we are, and our children have never heard of the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution.

He declared our ideological foundation when he said: “The Founding Fathers knew a government can’t control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that; it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing.” We are there now. The government controlling people was, for a short time, demonstrated by Trump when he shut down the Economy (March 2020) and different States put us in “house arrest” with different levels of enforcement.

No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. So, government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.” Today, the Administrative Government has grown to be 2.8 Million people who are “kings” for life until death does them part.

Left and Right, Liberal and Conservative

The “boxes” the DNC and RNC put us in are then used by politicians and copied by us while we throw moral rocks at each other. Creating the divide of partisanship. This, while we think to our satisfied selves, “Et lux in tenebris lucet” — and the light shineth in the darkness.

This partisan calling has not changed since 1964, “You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream — the maximum of individual freedom consistent with law and order — or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism.

Britannica — Totalitarianism: Totalitarianism is a form of government that theoretically permits no individual freedom, and that seeks to subordinate all aspects of individual life to the authority of the state.

We are suffering from the paradox of the boiling frog. We are and have been in the “slow boil” for 110 years. It has continued with more intensity for the last 70 years (1964 to 2024). The ultimate limit of that boil was demonstrated by the radical change implemented by Nazi Germany during WWII in the concentration camps. This is best described in the book “Man’s Search for Meaning,” by Viktor E. Frankl.

“Everything was sacrificed to keep oneself alive. This threatened all the values he held and threw them into doubt. Under the influence of a world which no longer recognized the value of human life and human dignity, which had robbed man of his will and had made him an object to be exterminated — under this influence the personal ego finally suffered a loss of values. If the man in the concentration camp did not struggle against this in a last effort to save his self-respect, he lost the feeling of being an individual, a being with a mind, with inner freedom and personal value. He thought of himself then as only a part of an enormous mass of people; his existence descended to the level of animal life.”

The Government Has Grown Unchecked

Reagan: “If government planning and welfare had the answer, shouldn’t we expect government to read the score to us once in a while? Shouldn’t they be telling us about the decline each year in the number of people needing help? But the reverse is true. Each year, the need grows great, the program grows greater.” Today, government programs create needs where there are none — Paychecks to keep people at home, paychecks for student loans.

This is the issue of this election (2024)

Reagan (1964): “This is the issue of this election: Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.

If and Only If…

We believe in our capacity for self-government; we will not make the same mistake again and VOTE for the ONLY PERSON running to restitute government as defined by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

It is time for us to make the real choice this time — VOTE FOR THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND THE CONSTITUTION.
