The Need for Reading, Writing, and Money

Reading, Writing, and Money are the only needs of Human being.

I hope you are familiar with these three words that are ever resounding and relevant through ages; Reading, Writing, and Money. These words have carried a weight and a precise meaning that everybody seems to get wrong from your childhood. Generally, reading and writing proficiency is correlated with better performance at school or college. This interpretation, to be fair, is indeed true but a narrow/myopic one. It seems that one tends to assay relevance to skill until it carries utility in their life.

People rarely read or write anything once they have completed their academic journey and embarked on their professional journey.

A necessary gimmick to maintain healthy cognition is to regularly engage in stimulating activities, of which reading and writing seem to be of paramount importance. It is not a brag to explain the relevance of reading and writing, whereas incorporating these habits is a different ballgame altogether. Most of us tend to skim over a newspaper and would rarely venture into reading articles. What differentiates us from the rest of the animal kingdom is our vast and superior neural chemistry and physiology that has propelled us to the top of the food chain. Consequently, it is not a stretch to say that reading and writing both sustain and facilitate our neural system.

According to Brain expert Tony Buzan, your brain has about 100 Billion cells, each directly and indirectly connected via ganglia and dendrites to 20,000 thousand other cells. The number of ideas and thoughts generated is 100 billion to the 20,000th power, equivalent to number one followed by eight pages of zero, line by line. The number of thoughts you can think is higher than the number of molecules in the known universe. You can unlock the potential genius in you, provided you practice the art of reading and writing every waking day of your life. You can activate these neural pathways and achieve anything in your life through the power of the subconscious mind.

“Reading is the new kale of the 21st century”

Reading:

Consider for a moment the number of pages that an average millionaire/billionaire reads. Even by the most conservative estimates, it is 400–500 pages daily.

Before writing this article, I conducted an informal survey with a bunch of my friends. I asked when the last time you read and wrote something was?

Most of them had not read since their college days, and the only thing they had written, in recent memory, was their credentials on eCommerce websites. In the instant gratification era, it was only natural to see them jump to output expectations without putting in the time and work. It’s only logical that developing a habit and its concomitant benefits take time; consider for a moment the number of years it takes to establish a skill set necessary for gainful employment? At the very least, 5 to 10 years.

In the beginning, one can either read two pages or at least devote 20 minutes daily to reading. Popular choices may entail reading biographies, blog posts, and personal memoirs of struggle and subsequent success.

If one is to believe Brian Tracy: he has never met a person who had not seen sweeping changes in their life post, practicing the art of reading for a prolonged period.

Writing:

What is the proof of your possessions? You possess materialistic things because a piece of paper mandates it. The patch of land you own is not yours because of some in-alienable heredity right you have over it, but rather it is a piece of parchment that guarantees your possession over the land in writing while being backed by the government. Before the introduction of scripting and codifying things, disputes were resolved through battle and muscle power.

“ You can make anything by writing.” — C.S.Lewis.

Each morning between 5 am to 7 am, you can write your goals and aspirations on a piece of paper. This exercise will hardly take 5 minutes. Some examples could be:

I am Self- Made Multi-Millionaire.

I want to pursue computer science engineering from IIT or MIT.

I write articles that help millions of people on medium.com.

I speak fluent and effective English with everyone on every single day.

The more one emphasizes on writing their dreams daily, the closer they get to achieving it. This sort of practice will program your subconsciousness into acting in ways that are consistent with our goals. I would like to propose a routine wherein you are supposed to write your goals every morning or at the end of the day, before sleeping, for 30 days. If you follow this routine religiously, you will soon notice that something subliminally is pushing you to write something everyday. To achieve complete reprogramming of your subconscious mind, I recommend sticking to the routine for at least 365 days.

Money:

What is money? How does it work? What does money like? Pause and think for a moment, why do we struggle for money? It is probably because we do not know how to attract it. My whole family works for the government, and my elder brother is a first-class officer, yet they always struggle for money and can only dream of a higher standard of living.

You have to change your mindset from mediocre to a rich one. Money is in abundance; what you need is a mindset that will allow you to tap into one of the various streams to acquire it.

According to Wikipedia: before the existence/introduction of money as a currency, communities engaged in barter systems that allowed them to trade their commodities. Apples in exchange for Shoes. Today metal coins, paper, cards, and digital money are all forms of valid currency.

“Since the inception of money, it is the only materialistic need for Human Beings in this Universe.”__SDR

Our definition of money is different. Some of my friends earn satisfactorily well through active means of income. The need for the hour is a secondary/passive income source that will supplement your active income. In the 21st century, you must have at least one passive income. If you inculcate the habits mentioned above of reading and writing, you would well be on your way to creating multiple passive income sources within five years.

But how will you decide whether you have enough money or not?

Before chasing your next dime, you should define the purpose behind it. Beyond a certain amount of money, chasing more money would not make sense. Most of my friends earn anywhere from $5000-$10000 monthly but pursuing earning beyond their means, end up buying huge liabilities that financially ruin them for many more years to come. A wealthy mindset finds ways to attract assets and yearns for financial independence.

My elder brother has a luxury car that he uses for transport. A wealthy mindset would enable him to monetize his luxury car. Some examples could be renting it out, making YouTube videos on it, or writing a blog highlighting its salient features.

Your yearly income should be such that you need not buy anything on EMI. If you still want millions or Billions in your bank account, you need to create services or products that cater to billions of people.

There is a famous saying that money is the root cause of all evil. I, on the other hand, believe bad intentions are the root cause of all evils. I would suggest recent graduates, and working professionals read Rich Dad Poor Dad, Think and Grow Rich, The Science of Getting Rich, my personal favorite How to be a BAWSE by Lily Singh, and Money Master the Game by Anthony Robbins. For those who have already read it once, I recommend reading these books multiple times.

“Money is not everything, but everything needs money.”

Conclusion:

Reading, writing, and money are like oxygen, food, water, and blood for the body. There is no point in life, but you will probably live a shallow one without inculcating these habits.

We are the only species that requires money for survival. A mediocre mindset may help you to survive, but a wealthy mindset will enable you to flourish.

I hope you learned something new and would sincerely urge you to apply these habits in your life. Thank You for Reading!
