The Myth of the Daily Article — Why You Don’t Have to Write Daily

Don’t burden yourself with writing daily

We all are burdened with the same advice to write at least 1 article per day. Sometimes even more than 1 article.

But why has it been advised so?

I too was burdened and was falling in the same race of writing at least 1 article every day on medium as if it were a magic formula for success.

When on weekends I had to take my toddler out for a day and was not able to write an article, I used to feel guilty about it.

I soon realized that this advice and pressure of writing 1 article for the sake of publishing it was doing me more harm than good.

Sometimes it happens that even if you try hard you are not coming out with words and do not feel like pen down it.

There are days when you sit down to write, but the inspiration doesn’t strike, and it feels like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. That’s okay, and it’s a feeling every writer experiences.

And that’s okay.

Let me tell you a liberating truth: it’s perfectly okay not to write daily. In fact, writing regularly doesn’t necessarily mean writing every single day.

Rediscovering the Joy of Writing

Writing should be a joyful, fulfilling process, not a task to check off your to-do list.

Writing just for the sake of publishing was never my intention so I decided to enjoy the process of writing. I then backstopped the whole process and started to write as per the flow.

I prioritized quality and enjoyment. I let go of the pressure to write an article every day and instead allowed myself to write as inspiration struck.

Writing As It Flows

Embracing the natural ebb and flow of creativity, I began to enjoy writing again.

I found that the best ideas and the most authentic words emerged when I let go of the daily quota and allowed my creativity to breathe.

Writing when it felt right, not when it was forced, revitalized my passion for the craft.

Final Thoughts

The race to write daily can be exhausting and counterproductive.

Remember, you don’t have to burden yourself with the expectation of producing content every single day.

The true value of writing lies in the joy it brings and the quality of your work, not in the quantity. Embrace the process, let your creativity flow naturally, and find your own rhythm as a writer.

Don’t be afraid to step back from the race and rediscover the true essence of writing.
