SHORT STORY

The Mystery Letter: The Same View

Episode #5

Leo didn’t know what to say. He put his hands on the reception desk and leaned over the desk to ask the receptionist why he was put in a room where there was stuff already. The receptionist scanned into the system. She saw his name in the system, but there was something off.

“One second, sir. What is your room number where you have been put in?”

“302”.

Another time she looked into the system. She saw that his name was mentioned in the same room as someone else. This was off.

The other lady next to the reception desk shoved awkwardly with her feet as she placed in this bedroom number as well. Loretta looked surprised. She didn’t say anything as she got confused by Leo’s muscled figure. She was hypnotized seeing him here again. That is a fluke.

Also, Loretta proceeded to the receptionist to investigate what was happening to her bedroom as she received flowers on the counter and her mattress, which she didn’t request. That was off too. The receptionist didn’t realize that too. But in the system was no announcement.

Leo was surprised to hear that she had been placed in this identical bedroom. But he also believed it all must be a misunderstanding. He deems it is a misconception, but also, he was wishing that this confusion led to stay with her in one cabin. Only to get to know her entirely. He set that thought aside while smiling, as it is not suitable to think like this at this moment. Bouncing his head made him alert again.

Out of his vision, he stared at her gorgeous and remarkable look. Not her outfit alone, but how her eyes looked at him while her head stared a little bit upon the ground, anyhow not guilty. His heartbeat beat faster, the longer they exchanged their views. That look was the moment he thought he wanted to experience minutes beside her. Why beat his heart so fast since he saw her? What made him feel this way? Very confused.

While the receptionist looked into her system again, she saw them absolutely in love with each other. Should she keep the situation this way and let this love bloom, or is there really no room anymore? She looked again in her system, but she didn’t find a room for Leo, unfortunately. The receptionist looked confused. She didn’t know what to do. She called for her supervisor. But he didn’t answer the phone.

“I think he is having lunch.”

“Well, do you have a solution? I am not going to sleep on the ground.”

“I think the receptionist is trying her best to find a solution for us.”

As Leo was tired, he sounded dreamy and he wanted to go to dream. He needed a big rest, at least for an hour or two. Then he wanted to go to The Library in Munich, to see what he can find there, what The Mystery Letter said. What can be in The Library of Munich that resonates with him?

Nicole, on the other hand, settled back on the wooden bench in the head of her son’s house to see the kids playing repeatedly. Cathy and Felix had such fun together playing with earth, leaves, wood, and more nature stuff, that she enjoyed it all day long watching them.

Tom left inside his residence to get some tea and cookies for everyone, including Nicole, still when she had an inadequate temperament. Still, his sympathies grew as he didn’t expect those feelings at all after such a prolonged time. Did he earn this at all?

Nicole saw when Tom smiled at her, and she smiled back. She got so many butterflies in her stomach when he smiled at her. It was sort of a shock through her body. It felt a little bit like she was a teenager again, with that giggling thing in her head while thinking about him. Tom was handsome and intelligent at the same time, so wise. That feeling made her a little bit confused, again, for the third time today. It was a nice warm feeling too. With her face in the sun and her book in one hand, she enjoyed those wonderful feelings after all those years not having a man next to her side.

Tom came back with four hot chocolate with cream and a big box of homemade cookies with chocolate topping. Those cookies were made by his daughter and his granddaughter a few days ago. He loved seeing them making cookies. He never did with her as he always was working or busy with something else related to work. He has so many regrets about that.

“Why are you smiling?”

Nicole got awake. She fell asleep a little bit. Not for real, but with her thought about Tom.

“Did I? Oh, I am so sorry.”

“There is no sorry. I liked it because you had a little bit of a bad temper earlier today.”

When Cathy saw the cookies and the hot chocolate, she ran towards granddad to take one from the plate. She couldn’t wait. Felix ran after her and smiled when he saw what granddad of Cathy brought with him outside, even when it too early for hot chocolate with cream. Felix opened his eyes wider and wider, and his mouth watered a bit more.

“Children, wait one moment. We are going to put this blanket on the ground and sit for a while with each other and then we take one.”

Her granddad sounded so strict and his dark voice made Nicole laugh hard and out loud. So loud that all four laughed about Nicole. Cathy and Felix looked at each other when sitting on the blanket. They laughed about Nicole and looked at Tom. While he puts everything on the ground, so the children, Nicole, and he can get that all consumed and that the hot chocolate can be wasted too.

Cathy was not patient enough to wait before everything was on the ground. She reached out for a cookie already. Her grandad ticked on her arm. She looked a little confused about her grandfather. Felix comforted her, took her arm, and rubbed it gently.

Like it was far away, Leo heard some voices and almost fell when he stepped back, but he could use his hands while he grabbed the desk to stay on his feet.

The receptionist was talking on the phone while Loretta looked at Leo for a longer time than he expected. A nice warm, and strange feeling as he hadn’t felt it in years. Is he allowed to feel this again? What does his wife think about this? The receptionist awoke him from his thoughts.

“Sir, I understand you’re tired and you want to go into your bedroom, but I try to solve this problem for you. I try to call my supervisor again, but in the meantime, you have to wait in the waiting room.”

“I am sorry, miss, but as my day started. I also try to solve The Mystery Letter I got. That is why I need to be here.”

He was tired, indeed, and let it all happen, but he really needed to have a little doze. His imagination went with the experience of that woman on the airplane, while she now stood in front of him.

Why beat his heart faster? He tried to look at her again. Maybe those feelings go away while he looked at her. It didn’t. As Leo turned around when she was laughing at him and she remembered him from the airplane as well. That made him comfortable and he grinned back at him.

While they both sat in the launch room to wait for this problem to be solved, they were talking about their airplane exchange and how awkward that felt, but familiar at the same time. Laughing both about this situation, but the receptionist waved back to Loretta again.

“Ma’am?”

“Yes?”

Loretta walked to the receptionist desk, but unfortunately, she falls over her own feet. Leo laughed. She heard that and looked back with that angry look to him. While Leo ran towards her to help her, he had her in his arms. More beats.

“Are you ok?”

“Well, actually my foot hurts a little bit.”

“I think a doctor needs to look at it right now.”

The receptionist called the first aid department to look at her. She hangs up while Leo helped Loretta to sit down on the chair another man took from the lounge room.

“Are you ok, ma’am?”

Everyone there in the room looked worried to her. But she wasn’t worried herself while Leo looked at her, hold her wrists and her hand. Her heart was pounding so fast that she barely could breathe. Leo took her up while he felt her hand around him. And both looked at each other, and it was Leo that almost fall. This time Loretta picked him up.

In the meantime, the doctor came through the door. He opened his case with supplies for taking care of Loretta. The blue-red suitcase of the doctor opened by two press buttons like the old style in the late sixties. The case itself was from leather materials. Loretta loved it all the way. She always has loved old styles. She always wanted to have such bags. But those are very expensive. She didn’t have that kind of money. When the doctor got his stuff out of the bag, he had such strong hands, that she liked that. Why was this doctor looking lovely at her?

They checked her foot and then the other foot. She could move it but she needed to take a good rest before walking within a few hours. Loretta cried a little bit because she was tired from the trip to Munich, but she needed to solve the room issue.

While Leo still held her, he saw her looking to the doctor. He didn’t like that and his stomach turned around. He buried away from his feelings and saw the doctor helped her to get settle on the couch again. He felt better at the same time now she is not in danger.

“Thank you, doctor.” While she looked with a sparkled eye to him.
