The Music of Summer
Torrid Tunes

Summer, water and music! Don’t they go together?
I remember hours spent by some body of water listening to music. First, a portable radio. Then, a cassette player. Then, a CD player. The, an MP3. And, now, my phone. Yes, I’m that old.
Other than Christmas, I don’t know another time of year that conjures up more music memories than summer.
I chose Kathryn LeRoy’s beach scene as our July Weeds & Wildflowers banner (Thanks, Kathryn!), and as I worked with the photo, summer tunes were shimmying through my mind.
Here are some of my favorites, and if you are much younger than 60, you may not know many of them!
The Drifters’ Under the Boardwalk Mungo Jerry’s In The Summertime Nat King Coles’s Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer Don Henley’s The Boys of Summer Seals & Croft’s Summer Breeze Eddie Cochran’s Summertime Blues Martha & The Vandella’s Dancing in the Streets Bryan Adam’s Summer of ‘69 Percy Faith’s Theme from A Summer Place Ella Fitzgerald’s & Louis Armstrong’s Summertime The Lovin’ Spoonful’s Summer in the City The Surfaris’ Wipeout The Beach Boys’ Surfin USA
I also responded to a Scrittura prompt by J.D. Harms that took me back to a summer concert: The Rolling Stones’ Tour of the Americas ’75: August 2, 1975, the Gator Bowl, Jacksonville, Florida.
How about you? What music do you associate with summer? What summertime music memories do you have?
I’m waiting for your submissions. Please use Writing Prompt Response as one of your tags.
Let’s boogie through July!
