The Murder of a Pastor in a Deadly Love Triangle

Pastor David Evans, his wife, and a younger man were involved in a threesome but little did he know that the other two were plotting to kill him

Pastor David Evans was a 50-year-old Oklahoma pastor of the Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in the city of Ada. He was liked by his community and respected by his church. He never hesitated to give a helping hand to others and was described as being “passionate and devoted to serving others.” He even volunteered near the US border to help migrant people in need.

However, on March 22, 2021, Pastor Evans was shot dead while he was sleeping in his home.

Upon his death, Pastor Evans left behind his wife, Kristie Dawnell Evans, and three grown children.

Who would have wanted to murder Pastor Evans and why?

An unhappy marriage and a love triangle

Pastor Evans had been married to his wife, 47-year-old Kristie, for decades. They seemed to have a loving relationship.

Pastor Evans posted about how thankful he was that Kristie had survived a long-term illness. Kristie had bad kidneys and required dialysis for more than seven years. She received a successful kidney transplant and Pastor Evans did not forget to celebrate it as a special day.

When Pastor Evans went on a mission trip to Mexico, his wife, Kristie, could not help but gush on Facebook about how he sent her gifts from Mexico. She told him that he was special and that he was her best friend. Just one day before Pastor Evans’ murder, she happily posted a message saying,

So, every day, I opened a card and was reminded of how blessed, loved and lucky I am !!! I love you so much, David!!!!!

However, all was not what it seemed. Later, Kristie would reveal a different side to the story. She mentioned that Pastor Evans was, in reality, cruel, controlling, and verbally abusive calling her names like “slut,” “fat” and “ugly.”

Moreover, a few months before the murder, the couple met a man who would go on to play a deadly role in their marriage. At a Super 8 Motel, Pastor Evans and Kristie met 26-year-old Kahlil Deamie Square. The relationship between the three would become rather unusual.

Kahlil was a convicted felon. He had already spent time in prison for assault and battery. In any case, the three people fell into a sexual arrangement where they all engaged in a threesome at the Super 8 Motel. In addition to their love triangle, Kristie also had a separate affair going on with Kahlil which did not include her husband. Pastor Evans did not know about this.

Kristi would call Kahlil daily and tell him that Pastor Evans was mistreating her. When Pastor Evans left on his Mexico mission trip, Kahlil was invited by Kristi to stay over for 3 nights at the home she shared with her husband. It was during this time that a murder plot was hatched.

The murder of Pastor Evans

On March 22, 2021, at 1 a.m., Kristi called 911 to report that her husband had been murdered in bed. When the police arrived, they found Pastor Evans dead with a gunshot wound to his head and bleeding from the nose and mouth.

Kristi told the police that her husband had been shot dead by an intruder. She said she woke up when she heard the gunshot and noticed that her husband was wounded so she ran outside to check for the intruder. The intruder story was believable until the police began to interview Kristi’s neighbors.

The neighbors told the police that a Ford Mustang had been parked at the house for several days before Pastor Evans’ murder. The Ford Mustang turned out to belong to Kahlil.

Kristi enlisted Kahlil to murder Pastor Evans. She obtained his sympathy after claiming that she had been mistreated and Kahlil was only too willing to play her game.

On the night of the murder, Kahlil arrived at the house. Kristi handed him a gun and bullets that belonged to Pastor Evans. Kahlil may have been hesitant to murder Pastor Evans because Kristi had to beg him to do it. She stayed in the living room while Kahlil walked over to the bedroom and shot her husband with his own gun. Kahlil then left the house while Kristi called 911.

Conclusion

Kristi eventually confessed her crime to the police. She and Kahlil were arrested and charged with first-degree murder. As of March 2021, both of them were held in jail. Their preliminary hearing in court is set for July 8, 2021.

The murder of Pastor Evans is somewhat sad and also an indication that seemingly perfect marriages may hide dark secrets.

As for Pastor Evans’ reputation, his church sent out a message saying,

We are aware that even pastors can succumb to human frailty and we ask that our privacy be respected at this time.
