Summary

The article discusses the importance of recognizing and harnessing the power of love and positivity as a counterbalance to collective negativity, particularly through the lens of Holotropic Breathwork and personal meditation practices.

Abstract

The author emphasizes that everything in life has opposites, including negativity, which manifests both individually and collectively. Amidst global suffering and the spread of negativity, especially on social media, the author advocates for the acknowledgment of a powerful, positive force—referred to as "LOVE" or the "Love-Force"—that counters the destructive impact of negativity. Drawing from personal experience with Holotropic Breathwork and the insights from Stanislav Grof's writings, the author describes a transformative realization: our actions towards others reflect upon ourselves, and negative thoughts contribute to a collective "monster" of negativity. To combat this, the author suggests incorporating awareness of this Love-Force into meditation or daily rituals, proposing a simple visualization exercise to enhance its effects. The article concludes with an invitation to focus on this positive force to foster resilience, empathy, and maturity in humanity, and a plug for the author's larger work on Medium, which includes a science-fiction novel inspired by the concept of the Love-Force.

  • The author encourages readers to integrate the awareness of this positive force into their meditation or spiritual practices to enhance their effectiveness and personal growth.
  • Acknowledging the difficulty of maintaining focus on positivity amidst global challenges, the author offers a practical visualization technique to help readers connect with the Love-Force during meditation.
  • The author's personal story and journey are shared as evidence of the transformative power of the Love-Force and as an encouragement for others to find their own path to positivity and healing.
  • Lastly, the author hints at a broader narrative within their body of work on Medium, suggesting that the theme of the Love-Force extends into speculative

The Most Useful Ingredient For Any Meditation

I promise you you will feel a big difference.

If you feel that those days you need to use anything you can think about to keep your morale up, this powerful ingredient might help. If you are not into meditation, skip the meditation part and use only the concept behind it. It might produce small miracles.

So let us start directly with the idea behind it: Everything comes in opposites. Night/day, cold/heat, and so on. The same for negativity.

Individual negativity and collective negativity. Fueled by the intense emotional effect of all the heart-breaking pictures of frightened people leaving everything behind to save their lives, I saw so many reactions on social media about how we, humans are the worst species ever, how we don't deserve to live on this planet, we are a plague and so on…

I got it! It hurts to look at those innocent civilians carrying their pets or at the frightened child too shocked to cry. What type of monsters can kill innocent children and see themselves as heroes? No animal does that… It has to be that we are the worst of the worst, isn't it?

The problem with this way of thinking is that it is amplifying the problem. We increase the collective negativity. We become a part of the problem.

In my journey to healing, I found help in the Holotropic Breathwork. It made all the difference in the world for me. After the first session, I knew that I finally had a chance against depression.

As it is my habit, I started to read everything I could find about Holotropic Breathwork.

It was one of Stanislaf Grof's books, I believe, where I found this story, one man describing his journey:

“Suddenly I found myself facing the most terrifying monster I could imagine. It was a gigantic humanoid figure. Its head was made from all the violent thoughts humankind had through all its history. Its members — all the violent acts, beatings, torturing, all the cruel acts a human being inflicted upon another since the beginning of our species. Its belly? All the greed… Its sexual organs — all the sexual violence ever produced.

As I was looking at the terrifying image in front of me, my child appeared between me and the monster. And from the monster, I felt an intense desire to abuse that innocent being.

I tried to resist, but my power was nothing compared with its destructive force. In my mind I turned against my child, crying while doing that and repeating over and over again:

I am doing this to myself! I am doing this to myself!

That story is for me the most important Holotropic experience I (n)ever had. The effect on me was so intense that I recognise it instantly as the truth: on an emotional and collective level, whatever we do to others we do to ourselves.

So strong, so persistent was the effect of reading this story that I never forgot that any destructive thought I have is adding to that monster power.

This is why, when I found myself despairing, judging others… this is the signal that is the time to stop. I don't want to feed the monster.

I bet there are many people out there trying to fight their negative reactions. And this is not an easy task.

To make this task easier we need to remember one crucial thing:

There is a counter-force to that. There is a counter-force to gravity. Life would not be possible if gravity would be the only existing force… And there is a counter-force to the gravitational-force-of-collective-negativity.

Without it, humanity would have long since collapsed under the destructive power of the negativity produced by human suffering. I don't have a name for that force. I call it LOVE because this is what makes humans thrive but you can call it as you wish. Light, Divinity, it is up to you. Or Life. Or you can call it the Force if you are a Star Wars fan. The name is not important.

As with gravity, we cannot see it. We cannot see gravity, we know it is there because we can observe its effects. We cannot see this Love-Force but we can see its effects.

Thousands and thousands of years of human suffering, and we still strive to grow. Take any history book, any legend, one theme it will be always the same. The good ones were paying a big price for their dreams.

No matter if we speak about a brave man protecting his village from attackers and daying because of the wounds he received. Or about a woman healing her neighbors with medicinal plants and being burned as a witch for that. Over and over, people who wanted nothing more than to follow their dreams or to help their people ended up being punished for that.

Does not this sound to you like a continuous negative selection that more or less unconsciously operates on the human race?

When we want to obtain the most beautiful or the most powerful horse (or dog, or flower for that matter) we do exactly the opposite. We choose the best from the pool-gene, isn't it?

Still, despite all the gravitational forces that try to flatten humanity, there is something that keeps us growing.

And when I say growing, I am not talking about numbers. I am talking about growing up. Humanity becoming more mature as a whole. Humans becoming more empathetic. More conscious.

It is hard to notice this force. It is easier to focus on all the disasters happening in the world right now.

But here is the key: the more we focus on this counter-force, this Love-Force (as I am calling it), the easier is to observe its effects. The more we observe its effects, the easier is to focus on it. A virtuous circle.

Now, about using this as a meditation:

You don't need a specific meditation. If you have a regular practice, this is amazing. The only thing to do to increase the effect of Anti-Negativity-Gravitational force is to be aware of its existence.

Before sitting to meditate, close your eyes. Imagine a sun on the ceiling of the room. Try to the warmth of its rays on your body. Then, imagine those rays lifting you.

If necessary, place your hands on your chest. Smile gently. Then start your regular meditation. Or pray. Or dance.

I promise you you will feel a difference.

May the Love-Force be with you!
