The Most Meaningful Moments That I Love To Enjoy In My House

Everyday Gifts

I walk around my home like a cat. I smell the air in the rooms, the clothes on the chairs, the food in the fridge.

Like a cat, I notice every slight movement, every little change. Why is that vase on the table? Who put it there without asking?

I look around. I check the colors that the sunlight creates on the wall, the shades of my plants in the living room.

Just like a cat, I get possession of every little corner, I make sure the rooms are still there, where I left them yesterday. Every object reminds me of a moment and of the people I love: carpets, books, and pictures.

I sit at the kitchen table, look at the mountains outside the window, and at the food in my plate. My cat wants it, she is always hungry.

I hear voices in the yard: my neighbors are always talking from one balcony to another. It’s a typical Italian habit, but I don’t like it.

A train passes. My house is near the station, and like a cat, I get scared by the noise. Don’t believe those who say you will get used to trains.

I go out on the balcony, talk to my jasmine, ask her to please make me happy and bloom. My cat comes closer and smells the plant.

I can’t think of a better place to live.

Thank you Trista Signe Ainsworth for your prompt, and for helping us appreciate what we have!
