The Most Important Thing On A Hike
Better not forget to bring it
Autumn is here! My favorite season. The air, the temperature and the colors.
Today, I went for a short hike in the forest. I brought with me my new (used) Canon EOS 600D. The old one got destroyed by a horse! Since I have lenses for this camera, I didn’t want to take the next step and buy a mirrorless one just yet. I got myself a used one, and installed the little hack “Magic Lantern”, so that I can mess with the settings and make timelapses.

Installation went well, and I went out to meet nature and all its colors. I feel at home on all these dirt roads we have around here. I grew up hiking on them, biking on them, and later driving a moped on them.

Looking up. The branches and the leaves create an unreachable tunnel for me. I can’t go there. I can just snap a picture.

By the lake. The fishermen had left, all except one, who was angrily honking his car horn at me. Nature is free to visit in Sweden, but by this particular lake, the fishing club has got it in their heads that they own the place. They have accused me of poaching before while I was quietly having a coffee by the lake. That’s the only time I can remember that I have yelled at a person completely unknown to me. Today, I ignored them, and eventually, they left.

At a hiking shelter, I found evidence of fellow bikepackers. Apparently, they had been staying there last spring. They have an Instagram called “Les Polo A Velo”.

Oh, and the most important thing on a hike, the thing you must not forget; Fika. Fika is a very important tradition in Sweden. It means taking a break with something to drink and a snack. It’s often social, but you can fika on your own, too. My fika today was coffee and a cinnamon bun, a classic Swedish fika.

What is your favorite fika?
