When we men see a woman, we know after a few seconds whether we find her attractive or not. The assessments of different men are often very similar. There seem to be certain features that are attractive to almost all men. I find this particularly exciting from an evolutionary point of view. After all, reproduction is the main goal and at the same time the basis of attraction.

Characteristics that we find attractive are usually markers for good genes, health, and thus good chances to have healthy offspring with the person.

According to science, the following characteristics are particularly attractive in women:

A High Pitched Voice

University College London researchers found out that men prefer women with a high-pitched voice, which represents a small body and youthfulness.

A Low Waist to Hip Ratio

Researchers at the University of California in Santa Barbara led by William D. Lassek investigated which female body type men find most attractive.

The so-called hourglass figure proved to be the ideal.

Women with a narrow waist and wider hips proved to be the most attractive. The perfect waist to hip ratio (WHR) is probably about 0.7.

For example a waist size of about 70cm and a hip size of 100cm.

According to Lassek, the reason for this lies in our evolution. Men are programmed to find women with high reproductive potential. A low WHR is probably the most important indicator for this. It shows physical and sexual maturity but at the same time a certain degree of youthfulness and fitness. The researchers also found that lower WHRs usually come with higher omega-3 docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels. A nutrient that is important for pregnancy and breastfeeding.
