The Morning Moon of My Now

I am so in love with life

Ok…we are…headed out for the first time today.

Puppies are expectant.

Half of the sky is inked in purples and grays, and the other slowly spreads yellows and pinks.

I attempt to capture the beauty of the moon.

The puppies pull at me.

Hold on..hold on…just a minute pups ~ almost got the shot…let’s make it trippy…

We travel on. Sharp barks followed by the appearance of a small, white, moppy dog in a neighbor’s window.

Rup Rup…Rup! Rup!

Good morning to you too.

Ducks! The first pair of the season.

Let me see if I can take this picture…hold on Fi, hold on…

We walk on. Freed from their leashes, the dogs sprint, yap, leap, and roll.

No being escapes Fi’s sharp eye. She spies a sparrow on the fence and charges, barking her good morning.

ROOOF! Roof roof…

The sparrow has no time for conversation and flies away, much to Fi’s chagrin.

Fi scrabbles over to a hole in the dirt. Sticks her tiny head inside.

Her once-white snout is stained copper with the wet mountain mud when she emerges.

Reggie’s becoming impatient. He did what he came for, and like a barn-sour horse, he wants to go home.

Poised by the gate, looking back, ready to go

I’m not.

The morning is perfect. Lazy clouds float by. Unconcerned with time or schedules. Following the rhythms of nature’s drum.

Just being. In this beautiful light of another Thursday morning.

My leaky balloon is deflating quickly. Reggie’s losing patience.

They say dogs take after their owners.

But I get it.

There’s breakfast to be eaten, toys to be thrown, and John to be woken.

I slip the Gentle Leader over Fi’s tiny nose, secure Reggie’s leash, and we’re off!

Who knows what’s to come? Anything is possible.
