The More I Learn, The Less I Find I Know

A real paradox

Help me to understand something and clear the confusion. I get interested in something, for example, learning how to help a Greyhound learn some simple commands. When we adopted Oreo, I had more questions than answers.

The adoption agency was a great help as were other Greyhound owners but I wanted something I could put my hands on and read or talk with a real expert. So, what did I do? Of course, my grandchildren, being the wizards that they are, told me to YouTube and also to Google it.

I would see something that looked like it would work wonderfully, try it, and get the look from Oreo that said “Watch me, Dad. I’ll show you.” So, to shorten this part of the story, I began a 4-year course taught by Oreo.

Jim, you usually write about spirituality and recovery. Where does this fit in? OK, I’ll tell you. Lately, I have been stepping up in my quest to discover as much as I can about my inborn spirituality.

I call it inborn spirituality because I know that I was born into this human, Earthly experience as a part of my Eternal life. This means that I will never be any more or any less spiritual than I am right now. The human experience is only one small portion of my eternal life.

Eternal means forever. No beginning and no end. No birth and no death. My studies are showing me that this is exactly what I am “living” right now.

Studies have shown that the human heart begins beating in the mother’s womb approximately 5 weeks after creation. Does this teeny heart have a brain that says “OK, heart, start beating now?” If so, where did the brain come from or even get the knowledge to say this?

Who among all of the distinguished scholars and scientists was able to orchestrate this and continue doing it daily to the billions of people living this Human experience and countless billions of other beings that exist? I know of none.

If there is no Higher Power, how could Man, from the beginning of recorded time, have accomplished these and many more seemingly miracles of life?

Everyone has their own thoughts of what a miracle is. What think? Or do you believe that there are no miracles? That Mankind has done everything on its own?

If so, how has Mankind arraigned the ever-expanding Universe so that the planets and galaxies travel at thousands of miles per hour seemingly safe from constantly colliding with each other?

Or made the Maple trees change the colors of their leaves from the lush green of summer to the vibrant golds and reds of autumn?

Or managed the conception of the embryo for all beings, each with its own heart to beat and lungs to breathe with? And, once begun, continued to beat and breathe without human assistance?

How many miracles do you need to see to believe that they are truly miraculous? And occur because a Power much greater than Mankind must be involved for it to even happen?

How could Oreo, a dog with a loving heart so huge that just thinking about her brought out a smile from everyone she knew, teach me, this representative of the Human race so much?

The answer is simple. Because she was Love. And what did we see earlier? Love is God and God is Love.

We are all spiritual beings which means that we are individualized expressions of God and one with all that exists. We continue expressing God, or The Higher Power, exactly like Oreo and all other beings, by demonstrating unconditional love.

And, I can’t wait to discover what more I will learn today. I am looking and what I seek I find. How? I simply say “God, help me,” and then get out of His way and let Him.
