The Monk and the Child

A Spiritual Poem

Yesterday I saw a child and a monk walking on the beach and I thought Both looked content Yet both looked lost

What is it you look for I asked the monk What brings you back Every time you feel lost

The monk smiled and said, When I see greedy eyes I get sad, I feel lost Every act of goodness brings me A step closer to my purpose That keeps my heart moving When my mind wants me to stop

The child’s eyes answered Before I could even ask With my unabated curiosity about life I am fully content My innocence protects me from any harm I look for the invisible hand of the creator When life seems hard

Their wise words moved my heart My soul whispered to me To live life to the fullest One should have the qualities Of both the child and the monk

Wisdom Faith Curiosity Innocence When combined together Compose the best tune and Life sings the most beautiful song
