The Method you must know to work smart — Do Less earn More

80/20 Rule
The “80/20 rule” was first discovered by Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who in 1897 studied the pattern of wealth and benefits for the British in the 19th century, and observed that most of the wealth went to the hands of the few. The sampled data also show that there is a consistent mathematical relationship between the percentage of a certain ethnic group in the total population and the total population or wealth enjoyed by that population group, which was later called the 80/20 rule ( or Pareto Principle).
Pareto’s research concluded that 20% of the population owns 80% of the wealth. The research findings focus not only on percentages, but on the fact that “wealth is distributed unevenly among the population, and that’s a predictable fact.” This pattern of unevenness recurs, and there is mathematical accuracy.
Application of the Rule
The so-called “80/20 rule” refers to the general unbalanced relationship between cause and effect, effort and gain. For example, 80% of profits are brought by 20% of customers, and 80% of wealth is concentrated in 20 % in the hands of people.
Conversely, in most people’s efforts, 80% of the effort can only bring about 20% of the results. This phenomenon can be said to be everywhere, affecting our life and work all the time. In other words, the world does not operate in the equivalent way we imagined, and the so-called “no pain, no gain” does not explain most of the situations in the real world.
Richard Koch, the author of the book “The 80/20 Rule”, pointed out in his book, “If you find the key 20%, then make good use of this part, and allocate most of the resources to its use. , isn’t it possible to do less and earn more?”
In 1949, Harvard language professor George K Zipf discovered the “law of least effort”, which is actually a rediscovery and interpretation of the 80/20 rule. Gipf believes that resources will always adjust themselves to reduce workload, about 20% to 30% of resources, and 70% to 80% of resource activities.
Organizational level The so-called “80/20 rule” is only coefficients, and usually, most of the results are contributed by a small part of X. That is, within the organization, 80% of the results come from 20% of the decisions, business, products, customers, employees… . For example, although a company has diversified businesses, it depends on a few of them to make big money; most of the revenue from a certain product is supported by a small number of customers, which we call big customers. 80% of the company’s income is created by the rest of 20%; 80% of the company’s total salary expenditure will also fall on these few front-line employees, and the salary increment will be more.
Employee level As for the wage earners who work hard in the organization, it is not that they get more for more work, but that 80% of their work results are attributed to 20% of their hard work. Most jobs can actually be done in a fraction of the time. In terms of internal and external communication, 80% of the benefits of email (or WhatsApp groups) depend on 20% of emails (communication groups). The Rule inspires everyone.
Carry out the “Rule of 80/20” to the end It is a pity that most people belong to the group that does 80% of the work, but only gets 20% of the results. I don’t want to be the 80% employee ignored by the company (or even laid off), so as to promote myself to the elite 20%, can you?
Locate the key minority Don’t be a panacea. Find the important projects that you are best at, are most interested in, and have the most career development, and then 80% of your thoughts, resources, and the key 20% can be done well, and you can achieve maximum performance. Most of the trivial matters that are not beneficial to oneself, simply give up. In this way, you can make a big difference in a small way.
Why do you need to do everything yourself There is no need to pursue perfection in everything. Doing a few things right can already be leveraged, and there is no need to participate in the whole process. For example, professional women don’t like to cook and do housework, so they hire domestic helpers or hourly workers, make time for long-sleeved dance on the workplace stage, or do things that are more meaningful to them.
Master of time Pay attention to the time when your brain is most efficient (early bird /night cat), and you will be refreshed when you start up. Workers or those who want to adapt to a 9-to-5 work schedule must be self-disciplined during work. They don’t need to keep checking emails all the time. Use 20% of the time to concentrate on fighting, isolate the Internet, listen to messages, and gossip with colleagues, etc., to complete the designated tasks, and the remaining 80% of the time can be used at will, at least not to let the OT waste precious lives.
