The Medium analytics / monetization stats are amongst the most useless charts conceivable

Medium shifted from quite sensible reporting pre August 2023 to completely useless since. And even worse since mid-December.

They moved all easily correlate-able stats on views, reads and engagement into separate charts that are hard to line up.

Engagement is not shown vs day at all. We have no idea how our stuff is going at birds eye.

Ratios are confused. Numbers and %s are inconsistently reported. As is per day vs per month vs per article.

It’s basically a dog’s breakfast.

They shifted to a fancy wavy line instead of bars. And initially even stacked the reads plus views instead of showing as a proportion! Either they are truly math deprived or trying really hard to obfuscate. At least they fixed that . .

And now there’s a focus on ‘internal vs external’ views which are almost irrelevant to us.

The summary page is similarly useless. It does not even let you see how you are ‘doing today so far’ either. And no indication at all of daily claps.

And ‘they’ present it as an improvement!

The stats pages are now the most unscientific analytics imaginable.

Medium simply does not want us to be able to easily work out what is contributing to our successes and failures as writers.

Especially on a daily basis.

Not to mention that on Aug 1 they cut most of our monetization from readership down by a factor of 5 overnight. Arguably to advantage ‘engagement’ as if reading was not engagement.

My daily monetization went down from $150 to $30 overnight on that fateful day.

Instantly.

Medium has become highly disingenuous towards us. And celebrates talky, chatty, controversial or polarizing stuff over serious, balanced, centrist writing now.
