The Maldives Diaries: Day Three
Sunrise, sunset, and everything in between

Welcome to Day Three on Baros Island, Maldives! If you’d like to read Day Two, you can read it from the following link. Other episodes are listed at the bottom of this page.
I arose early on the third day, because I wanted to watch the sunrise over different parts of the island. I walked around the water villas, and then I explored both sides of the beach.
Our villa host delivered a program of daily activities to the villa each morning, including expected sunrise and sunset times for each day.

Baros is a tiny island on the North Male Atoll, with only seventy-five rooms in the entire resort. There were many private spaces to relax and take in the view. It never felt crowded.

The resort had a gym and offered Yoga classes each morning.

I ventured away from the water villas to the beach to watch a different view of the sunrise.

The resort was eco friendly, using biodegradable chemicals for cleaning, and recycled water.

A traditional Maldivian fishing boat, called a Dhoni, often cruised the water at sunrise.

At the time of our visit, there was no public pool. All water villas and beach villas each had a private infinity pool.

After sunrise, I walked back to the water villa. Usually we ate breakfast at the buffet of Lime Restaurant, but this day they delivered a special Birthday/Anniversary breakfast to the villa.

Abdul brought fresh fruit, pastries, champagne and mimosas to our villa. The food and service was five star and never failed to impress.

More rose apple fruit!
The website claimed they would provide fresh fruit upon arrival, but they went above and beyond their advertisement. They consistently brought fresh fruit to the villa, every morning and evening.

A sting ray swims past the water villa.

The water villas were located directly over the house reef. You could step directly into the water from private steps located on the right side of each villa.
The house reef had a variety of sea life, which I’ll detail in future days. The resort also offered world class scuba diving.

The villa was stocked with books in different languages, mostly German and English. There were also DVD’s and an iPod loaded with tropical music. There was a large screen TV in the villa that folds into a bench in front of the bed. I tried to read a bit, but honestly, I was too distracted by the pristine waters and tranquil sea.
I couldn’t stop daydreaming about the tiny island in the distance. In the next installment of the Maldives Diaries, I swim to the island in the above photo.

What a wonderful way to celebrate my fortieth birthday and our twelfth wedding anniversary!

The mini bar offered a variety of cookies at an added cost, but every evening, complimentary pastries awaited us in the villa upon our return from dinner.
It’s not pictured here, but of course there was a Keurig machine with a variety of coffee.

I was given a complimentary birthday massage at the Serenity Spa. Afterwards, I retired to the water villa to watch the sunset.

The sun sets on another day on Baros Island.
Thank you for reading. I look forward to sharing Day Four of the Maldives Diaries next week! Have a wonderful week!
