The Magic Month Of October: Writing Prompts with Dreams & Stories
Thursday writing prompt themes in the beautiful month of October.
“October is a symphony of permanence and change”. — Bonaro W. Overstreet
Dear family and friends,
Let me thank you all for the lovely contribution to writing on ‘Hope’ in September. We have a beautiful collection of stories in our publication Dreams and Stories.
Now to mark the month of October, let us wish a bright ‘hello October’.I am excited that October is setting in.
The beauty and special moments of October
Summer is behind us and we are ushering in cooler weather. October is a month for beautiful mornings and gorgeous evenings. It is a month to live, love, and be happy. We are celebrating many festivals all over the world.
Halloween is being celebrated on 31st October and Diwali week starting on31st October until the 5th of November are big festivals of the west and the east. There is an intermingling of the international spirit. The UK mint has taken out a gold bar with the Indian idol Lakshmi on it to mark the spirit of Diwali and honor the Indians. These are special moments.
October has two birth flowers, the pastel-hued cosmos, and the radiant marigold flowers. Opal & Tourmaline are the birthstones of October. The beauty of nature’s colors in various shades of yellow, orange, red, purple, and brown attract our admiration in the month of October.
You can now see that October is so special
October prompts
Our themes for October are the following:
- My achievement was a turning point in my life. (Week 1)
- Learning, Unlearning, and Relearning. (Week 2)
- One thing I would like to do is to make my first job more memorable.( Week 3)
- The dream is no longer a dream for me. (Week 4)
We are giving you all the weekly topics in this post so that you get plenty of time to think it through while writing the prompts.
#1. My achievement was a turning point in my life
You must be having many achievements in your life. They may be big or small or even a self-improvement plan which you have been able to achieve that changed your life and has been extremely favorable for you.
I remember my achievement when I went abroad for the first time in my life. I was selected as a Fellow for a workshop at Salzburg in Austria. It was a scenic city and I stayed at the castle where the song Do Re Me was filmed in the movie Sound Of Music.
I went for the program all alone and women in India never traveled alone way back in 1987 I did the most unacceptable thing. I traveled alone to go to a foreign country. What I learned made a huge impact on me.
I became an independent person ready to face the world with any kind of challenge. I began to look at women’s rights and I understood the dominance of the men in the country.
I started helping women in woeful conditions and help them to face their challenges bravely in life.
My achievement in being selected and going alone helped me and became the turning point in my life.
What is your experience? Do share your experience? I know someone who cut the first onion in her life. Her eyes were full of tears with the sting of the onions but this achievement turned her life into becoming a very well-known chef. She became motivated to make new dishes and make others enjoy her food preparations.
#2. Learning, Unlearning, and Relearning.
The new normal has completely changed people’s lives. Everyone loves to learn but now people have to soon unlearn and relearn too.
At work, the S curve has started operating where people have to learn all the time but it is a dynamic world and processes change with the fast-changing world of technology, and old processes have to be forgotten, and to move ahead we have to relearn.
You can read my take on learn, unlearn and relearn. However, it will be interesting to read your story on Learn that we all love, unlearn and forget old processes and begin to learn afresh to catch the fast pace of life.
#3. One thing I would like to do is to make my first job more memorable.
Do I want to make friends or do I want to learn something to make my first job memorable? What is it that I want to do? It is my dilemma.
Everyone has their own reasons for joining and their own experiences. Did you want to do something special in your first job for it to be memorable? Share with us. We would love to hear.
#4The dream is no longer a dream for me.
I had a dream always that I would relive my childhood by living in a big white-painted house with a big garden and an orchard and vegetable garden.
Now it is just a dream because, with the changing new world, I am looking for more security and ease in life with modern gadgets and amenities and a community of people who will be friends as I get older and we can have some fun together.
I am sure you harbored dreams to which you do not hold any value now with the changed circumstances in your life. Think about it and bring your story to Dreams And Stories in October.
I just want to add that there is no rule to write the prompts and it could be shared with us in the form of an article/story/poetry/haikus whatever is feasible for you. And we will cherish them.
We would also like to request you to add your full name as one of the tags in stories you publish with Dreams and Stories. The reason is we have a feature bi-weekly column dedicated to our writers. This is meant to give them more exposure and viewership.
We would want our family to support us on Instagram and you can easily find us as The Story Box (storyboxmedium).
We hope it helps you. On Twitter, you can find us as “storyboxmedium,” Dreams and Stories on LinkedIn, and YouTube as The Story Box.
Hope to receive and read your entries soon. Till then, take care and have a wonderful week.
