This Is How You Make Serious Money In The Creator Economy
What you need and why you need it.
It seems like everyone is hitting the keyboard and churning out content these days. People with no experience and an internet connection are gaming the system and within months their bank accounts are getting smacked with thousand dollar Stripe payments.
This is the golden age of choosing ourselves. We can define who we are, what we’re about, and how and where we will make money.
We should call this the age of autonomy. Never before have we had this much freedom.
You know where this is going.
With freedom comes choice, with choice uncertainty, and with uncertainty procrastination. With so many options where do we start? How do we get involved and how do we get paid?
Googling how to make money online isn’t gonna cut it, nor is buying a course on dropshipping. These are rookie mistakes. Mistakes I’ve made so you don’t have to.
But first things first, before all else, you’re gonna need to:
Pick Your Platform
You begin by choosing where you want to start earning. This is ground zero and there are a whole bunch of platforms to choose from. Tiktok, Instagram, Youtube. Medium and more. They all have opportunities for monetization. Some are more complex than others but at heart, they all do the same thing. Pay you for getting views.
I have chosen Medium because I like to write. Maybe you prefer to make videos, tell jokes, or interview people.
I don’t want this to be a generic post. There are so many damn articles like this one and they all say the same thing, but please listen;
There is no magic to making money online and it starts with a choice. Choose your platform and decide to give it all you have until you make it work. There is no other formula than that.
Some successful creators enjoy it, some hate it but love the money. It does NOT have to be something you are passionate about, nor do you HAVE to love the process. Sure it helps but some people just want to be the best at what they do so they get paid for it. People that don’t want to answer to anyone or be on someone else’s time.
Again, there are all sorts of creators, there is no type but they all have one thing in common, the successful ones anyway. They picked a platform and worked at it until it worked and they didn’t let up until it did.
Get Into it
So you’ve picked your platform and taken yourself to the highest mountain you can find. You’ve shouted your promise that you won’t rest until you are successfully making money from content creation. Now what?
Now is the time to start work. Every day is best and 6 times a week is the next best option. Any less than that you may not grow your skills at that exponential rate you need. But each to their own. Do what you can.
I chose to write 100 articles in 100 days at the start. I knew I needed a challenge and I realised early on that getting into it would be the hardest part.
I showed up and I wrote 100 bad articles. No one read them. My writing improved only slightly but my confidence shot up.
I had successfully done two things. I had picked my platform and I was now into it. I was creating. It was no longer an idea, it was reality.
Trust me, if you make 30 videos or write 100 articles in as many days, you are in. All of the stuff that held you back is behind you. Now there is nothing separating you and the top content creators. Well except for one more thing you need to do:
Develop Your Skills
On top of putting stuff out there regularly, it is important that you get better as quickly as you can. Some things cannot be rushed and only come with time and dedication. Other things can be learned quickly.
If you are a writer, get a coach. Always worth it. Someone who will critique your style and your grammar. I put off doing it but I need it. It is how we turbocharge our skillset. Reading other people's articles, taking notes and courses on business writing all pay dividends too.
The more serious your game plan the higher the returns. Go to Linkedin and find a coach if you can. Watch as many free videos on your subject if you cannot.
My favourite quote at the moment is:
Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can — Arthur Ashe (Famous Tennis Player)
Treat this like a business, work on it daily and you’ll get paid — one day.
Final Thoughts
Don’t give up your day job just yet.
If you are now at the stage where you are posting regularly, taking it seriously, and refining your game, then one of two things will happen.
- You will make something that goes viral and you get paid more than you expected. This happened to me and I earned nearly 1000$ in my third month on here.
- You will have made nothing after months of making content and putting your heart into it.
They both come with their own problems. The first one leads you to think you have what it takes already to make this your main job. WRONG. The second leads you to think you do not have what it takes to make this your main job. Again, WRONG.
This will take time, a lot of it.
It will test you, tease you, and torment you. Everything will conspire to have you stop and quit.
Don’t.
The world belongs to those who don’t listen to logic and follow their own convictions.
Convince yourself that what you envision will happen and one day it will. As long as you continue to walk on the path.
You don’t have any control over how long it will take. You do have control over your process.
If you stick with it, beyond what is comfortable, you may find out what is on the other side.
Good luck.
