The Long Ask

I’m just trying something out. I want to get the word out, and I especially would like folks to sign up for Medium.com using my affiliate membership. What that means is of the $5.00 you spend every month for your membership, I earn $2.27 as a commission.
You can also join up and decide to pay once with an annual plan. It’s cheaper. It’s what I do. Just once a year, Medium takes $50 out of my checking account. It’s also a business expense you can claim on your taxes. Or, at least our accountant hasn’t told me I can’t.
The mistake I made when I signed up for Medium is I did NOT trust the affiliate link left by the author whose story I had just read. I wanted to be part of Medium, but I did not trust her link.
I wish I’d known then what I know now. Had I pushed her “Join Medium Now” button, she would have been happier. I’d be happier knowing I was helping a fellow writer out and the powers that be (this is Medium we’re talking about) don’t get all my membership fees. I’m sure they’ve got deserving people on staff, but as far as I know, most of the people I’ve met at Medium are just like you and I. Just fellow writers. Medium does not pay us unless it is a subscription fee. Other Medium members do when they read my articles.
Let me tell you, it is perfectly okay to use my link.

See, I’ve printed it out so you can see where I’m going to take you. Pmevanosky is my Medium user name. My first name is Pauline. My last name is Evanosky. My middle name is Marie, but I’ve just used the initial.
By the way, about my last name? It is a Lithuanian name. Originally, when Dennis’ grandfather immigrated from Lithuania, probably in the early 1900s, the official who met him at Ellis Island in New York said, “Evanaskoususous?” Actually, it was 27 letters long at that point. Well, he said, “No, that won’t do at all. Now, you are Evanosky.”
My last name is Johnson in English. Evan always means John, and sky or ski always means son of. Son of John. Johnson. I like having Evanosky as my last name. In all my married life, I think only three people have ever said it right.
Here is another thing about writing on Medium. You have freedom of speech. Nobody is going to arrest you. There are some rules in place like you can’t do hate bashing or talk about killing, but otherwise, you have freedom of speech here. There are lots of places the world over where you have to be very, very careful about what you are saying. I can even talk trash about Republicans or TeeRump, which I tend to keep low-key, but imagine that? It makes for some humorous writing every once in a while.
If you’ve read this far, I’ll tell you a bit about myself. I’ve been a member of Medium since November 2020. I was a writer then. Now, I’m a better writer. Last year I earned about $58 from folks who read my stories and who joined Medium using my affiliate membership link. Thank you, John!
There are a lot of folks who are going to tell you that you can quit your day job if you start writing at Medium. I thought that too until I realized it doesn’t quite work that way. You can’t get behind the Medium paywall until you have 100 followers. At that point, they will allow you to start receiving money for the time folks spend reading your articles or pieces, as I call them. To me, it’s almost like me piecing a quilt. This is a lovely, wordy, descriptive chronicling passage of my becoming a writer.
Along the way, I also learned how to talk to dead people.
What? What the hell?
Yes, that’s right. I am a psychic. I mostly talk to my spirit guide Seth, but there are a ton of other people and animals I talk to. I didn’t become a psychic until I was 35 years old. Primarily, it was costing a lot of money to go to psychics, and I really didn’t have the kind of money to keep doing that. So, I learned how to do it myself.
Do you want shoes? Make them.
What is interesting is that if you hang around with psychics, sometimes you become one.
I’ve always loved a challenge, and becoming psychic was just about the most life-changing thing I’ve ever done. The funny thing is that I really think most people can do it. It took me years. I’ve seen other people take 15 minutes. They’d already done the hard, introspective spiritual work. Truthfully? Everybody is psychic. You just don’t know what it looks like, or you’ve got an idea in your head about what it should look like.
I actually thought that about being a writer too. Here’s me. It’s 2:00 pm. I’m still in my pajamas. I’ve been writing for the last several hours. You’ve at least got to put underwear on when you go to work. Not me.
I did take my medicine this morning. I promise.
Anyway, we’re a friendly bunch.
At this point, I’ve written about 316 stories on Medium. Here’s a Table of Contents that I update once or twice every month.
I just hit 600 followers today! So, celebration time.
I’m currently writing several books. It was actually supposed to be one book, but I had so much to say it has morphed into a three-book series geared toward young people looking for their first jobs. It will be published on Amazon sometime in the summer of 2023. I hope. I’ll let you all know. It was with the help and support of the other writers at Medium that I finally got the courage to write a book. I’ve got plans for several more.
So, join the fun. You will laugh your pants off.
