Mindfulness through Buddhism

The sun was slowly getting ready to end the duties of the day, retreating to the abode beyond. The purple cotton candy clouds floated by the golden backdrop framed by the peaks of the pointed mountain tops. The cold mountain breeze engulfed her giving the feeling of the peace of the mind. Seated at the top bench was the chief monk of the monastery.

“Buddhism is not a religion where people have to always go to the temple and worship”, he said.

“Buddhism is a way of life and a philosophy which you can choose to live by. You can incorporate the teachings of Buddha to your daily life. The teachings will show you the true nature of life, the true of very being and the true nature of the universe. The essence of Buddhism is peace which arises from truly knowing the nature of all things. It points out the characteristics of impermanence, suffering and non self. Understand the true message given by Buddhism, that is the only way for salvation. Be your own savior.”

“Does meditation help in clearing your way towards enlightenment?”

“Yes indeed. Meditation can make the mind peaceful in order to let wisdom arise. With right Samadhi, the intense concentration achieved through meditation, you can reach the full mindfulness and clear comprehension which would give way to the rise of true wisdom.

There is a verse in the Dhammapada.

“yathā pi rahado gambhīro vippasanno anāvilo evaṃ dhammāni sutvāna vippasīdanti paṇḍitā”

“Just like a lake, deep, bright and clean, so the wise ones become tranquil, after having heard the teachings.”

Mediation would help you to widen the understanding of reality of life.”

“What must be done in order to reach the supreme bliss?”, she asked.

The real worth of the mankind will come to the fulfillment through the deeds, speech and thought. The practice of Dhamma; the teachings of Buddha comes to contemplation at the place where there is nothing. It is a place of laying down the burden and a place of surrender. The worldly way according to Buddhism to be of service to others without the expectation of anything because any expectation is just a cause of suffering. Thereby we give way to the peace of the mind. The mind which lets go of the indulgences in pleasure and the indulgence in pain, it is the correct practice.

The shining little dots of stars were appearing from the black velvet night sky in the horizon, just like the little sparks of wisdom aroused in her mind.
