The Little Bird and I
A short story in a poetic form
The Sun awakened me today I said ‘I will be on my way’
It asked me to put on my favorite dress matching the morning sky I must confess I love it when it does that
A few minutes later I was on the beach Chasing ocean waves Waving at the Sun Having all the fun
The Sun seemed calm Unlike when it is too bright I was glowing like a sunflower in its dawning light
At that moment I heard someone laugh I turned around and I was in awe of what I saw

A little bird was bathing in the morning sunshine It was sitting on a tiny little rock
It said to me ‘The sun is mine We used to play together Until you started talking to it
I am in love with its rays Can’t share them with anyone Not even a bit
I laughed seeing its cuteness Its golden feathers were shining in the morning Sun matching the Sun and my dress
The little bird tilted its head You think this is funny, it said
I am sorry dear That is not what I meant I apologized as I said I had no one in the world whom I could call a friend
Then one night The Moon came and talked to me It saw my pain that no one could see
Every night we would talk But every morning the feeling of loneliness would engulf me

One day the Sun knocked at my window It said Hello sweet friend
The moon has told me about you My rays don’t cheer you up Forgive me for I had no clue
But now that I know I promise every morning I will pay you a visit and say hello I will shine in through your beautiful heart’s window
Every day when I make someone smile and they smile back It adds more shine to my light That is no secret
Ever since then My days are brighter My nights are happier
I love every part of the universe I like adding shine to it just like It stands tall for all of us

The little bird flew closer to me With teary eyes it said sorry
‘Today I have learned my lesson love is unconditional Like the sun spreads its rays everywhere for everyone
You and I may seem different But we are one’
We smiled at each other The sun winked at us The next moment I was running with the wind and flying with the little bird
