The Light

An illustration and a dedication

My earliest memories of Lata Mangeshkar songs are from the radio which is my father’s favorite gadget. He introduced us to her songs. She is his favorite singer. But today he is devastated. Not because he is under isolation because of covid, he is sad because today she departed for a better place. Artists never die. I believe in this. My son loves to hum her songs but he doesn’t know who she is. I had to tell him today. And that’s how I will remember her as a singer and an artist who is still alive because of her songs.

I did this illustration yesterday thinking about goddess Saraswati and I am dedicating this illustration to her because now she has become the light that will be still there because of her voice. She left but she has left her magic behind.

You can read more about her here. And I will be celebrating her life. I wrote this post for my father who is not able to accept her death. I know he won’t read this but I had to write these few words to move on. Being a writer this is the best I can do.
