The Leading Causes of Death in Every Country

The world is dealing with Coronavirus now. Most of us wouldn’t want to turn on the news. You find the remote, and while you’re just going through the channels, “50,000 newly infect-”. No thanks!
It doesn’t mean that we had an easy time watching the news before the pandemic. There’s always bombings, plane crashes, road accidents, and the list goes on.
If we know the leading cause of death in each country, we could do something to solve them with separate solutions for each region.
This is a map showing the leading cause of lost years of life in every country:

Lost years of life simply means the difference between the expected life expectancy and the number of years the person actually lived.
This is a study from 2013. So, the data might have been different had the study been done now; nonetheless, we can expect the data to have not changed very much.
If you look at the map, you can see a pattern here. The more developed countries have more deaths from heart disease, instead of something communicable or preventable/easily curable like diarrhea, malaria, HIV/AIDS, etc.
In Africa, more people die from diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, and preterm birth. These things are easily preventable.
It is kind of what we would expect. In Africa, there are countries with less medical services, less aware people, poverty, illiteracy, and hundreds of other things that make these “preventable” diseases inevitable. There are many organizations working to solve this problem, and the deaths from the above reasons are constantly decreasing.
China, on the other hand has stroke as its leading cause of death. Because of the industrial rise, people are constantly working. They can’t give thought to their diet and what they eat. While the preventable and easily curable diseases are not a big cause of concern for Chinese people because of the health facilities, they should be aware of the diseases that increase in number with age.
Looking at the middle-east, Saudi Arabia and Oman have Road accidents as their leading cause of death. Most people in Syria are dying due to the civil war. It is very unfortunate that this is happening there.
In South America, countries like Colombia and Venezuela are affected by violence. The drug cartels and gangs have made it hard for people to live there. Pneumonia kills most people in Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Suriname, Guyana and Chile join the majority of nations where heart disease kills most people.
In North America, heart disease kills most people. Likewise, it’s the same situation in Australia and New Zealand.
As you can see, each country has its own problems. You can’t take the same approach that you take in North America in Africa. The problems there are worlds apart.
One thing that I find weird about this map is people seem to be immortal in Antarctica. How do they do that? Sorry for the bad joke.
On a serious note, the good news is, the death rates in young people are decreasing constantly. The life expectancy of people are increasing year-by-year, and the lost years of life are decreasing. So, Cheers to the longer lives of people!
