The Lazy Guide To Affiliate Marketing

Aka what do I have laying around the house to talk about

Affiliate marketing is a great business for online content creators. You share a link to a product with your audience, and if they buy from that link, you get a commission check.

I have dabbled in affiliate marketing for at least 10 years.

I started when I had a blog about my fiction. I’m horrible at writing fiction, though I didn’t realize how horrible I was until actually published the fiction.

But I’d promote the books that were inspiring me to my writing community.

And that was when I discovered the best part of the Amazon affiliate program, you get credit even if you buy something else within 24 hours.

By dumb luck, I flipped a $3 book review into a $5000 hot tub sale (even at a low affiliate rate, that was a decent chunk of change). I didn’t even know that Amazon sold hot tubs.

All I did was share the link to the book. The person clicked, decided they didn’t want to buy the book, and instead bought a hot tub.

If you are starting out with affiliate marketing, pick a topic that you are already doing. Even if it’s competitive. You will have to work harder to get attention.

But you will convert better because you can create better content.

Because I suspect the reason why I got the original Amazon click in the first place was that I was passionate about the review of the book.
