The Laughter of Children Is Priceless

And a reminder of the kid in all of us

Just as hope rings through laughter, it can also shine through tears. ~ Maya Angelou

There is a sound that makes my heart smile.

And it is something I’ve noticed wherever I go — whether I’m visiting another country, or right here in my own home country.

It is hearing giggles and laughter coming from the mouths of babes.

A Remembered Innocence

Often childhood is associated with innocence. A time in our lives when our existence revolved around playing outdoors after school and getting good grades.

While my younger years are filled with beautiful moments, they also hold trauma. And I’m convinced that this is one reason why the laughter of children is so soothing for me.

When I see a group of children, especially running around in the park or at the beach, I immediately feel a sense of happiness.

Witnessing their carefree movements transports me.

Watching and hearing them reminds me of what I wish for every child in this world: love, kindness, joy, and nurturing.

It is during these moments that I find myself in a state of elated calm. I find myself focused on the wondrous gift I am receiving.

I am grateful for each of those souls — perhaps they are unaware of the beauty with which they fill this world.

This short piece is dedicated to all the children of this earth. It is also written to honor the kid in each of us. 💛
