The Latest Updates in The AI Realm (July 9th)

Hi, fellow readers and writers! for this week, there are a few interesting things I want to share to keep you in the loop with what’s been happening in the AI realm. So without further ado let’s dive in!

Chat GPT’s Slowdown

First things first, let’s talk about Chat GPT. For the first time in a long while, this AI language model has experienced a slowdown in its growth.

It saw its peak in May and had fewer users in June. This cooling-off period is the first Chat GPT has seen since its inception.

It’s not exactly groundbreaking AI news, but it’s definitely a hot topic in the tech world right now.

Meta’s Answer to Twitter, “Threads”

Now, let’s discuss “Threads.” This might not directly relate to AI, but it’s been the talk of the town in tech circles this week.

Threads is Meta’s response to Twitter, offering a similar platform. Early feedback suggests that it has garnered a more positive reception than Twitter, with users reporting a decrease in the negativity often associated with social media.

It has already accumulated over 95 million posts within 24 hours of its launch. Check the link below to read more.

Mid Journey’s New Pan Feature

Now, here’s a cool new toy that was introduced this week: Mid Journey’s new pan feature. It’s similar to the zoom-out feature, but with an added twist.

Instead of just zooming out, you can now move the picture left, right, up, or down.

This allows you to create more dynamic and creative compositions. It’s exciting to see the creative potential users will unleash with this new panning feature.

Leonardo AI’s Canvas 2.0 Upgrade

Moving on to another favorite AI platform of mine, Leonardo AI, they recently unveiled a fantastic upgrade called Leonardo Canvas 2.0.

In the demo, they showcased some impressive enhancements. They added a crab, highlighted specific areas, introduced people, and even placed a sun in the sky.

It’s similar to what we see in applications like Photoshop’s generative fill, allowing users to add and manipulate elements within an image.

Steam’s Stance on AI-Generated Images

Now, let’s shift gears to the gaming world. There’s been some news circulating this week about Steam rejecting games that use AI-generated images.

Valve, the company behind Steam, clarified their stance, stating that they are not discouraging the use of AI on their platform.

They are currently being cautious due to the legal and ethical gray area surrounding AI-generated images, as they are trained on others’ artwork. Steam wants to avoid any controversies and be sure they’re on the right side of the line.

Google’s Sneaky Privacy Policy Update

In other news, Google made a privacy policy update that many people might have missed.

They did it in a rather sneaky way, explicitly stating that they reserve the right to scrape almost everything you post online for the purpose of building their AI tools.

Yes, that means anything you put out there on the internet might be fair game for Google’s AI models. Check the link below to read more.

OpenAI’s Super Alignment and GPT-4 Updates

Now, let’s talk about OpenAI and their recent developments. They’ve introduced a new concept called “super alignment.”

OpenAI has dedicated 20 percent of their computing power to ensure that AI remains aligned with human goals.

Currently, AI systems rely on reinforcement learning through human feedback. But as AI becomes more advanced than humans, it poses challenges in maintaining alignment between AI goals and human goals.

OpenAI aims to build a team that will focus on implementing safeguards to prevent any misalignment. It’s a smart move to ensure that AI works for us, not against us.

In addition, OpenAI announced that the GPT-4 API will be available to all companies using GPT. This means that developers building tools on top of GPT can now leverage the power of GPT-4 models.

And if you’re a fan of the OpenAI Playground, you’ll be thrilled to know that GPT-4 is now an available option within the playground. OpenAI is making sure that developers and users have access to their latest advancements.

Chat GPT’s Browsing Feature Temporarily Disabled

However, OpenAI did have to disable the browsing feature in Chat GPT this week. If you’re a Chat GPT Plus user and you’ve tried to browse with Bing, you might have noticed it’s no longer available.

OpenAI took this step because the browsing feature occasionally displayed content in unintended ways, which was not in line with their content owners’ wishes.

They’re working diligently to fix this issue and bring back the browsing feature as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you need to browse with Chat GPT, you can still use Bing.

Code Interpreter and Bottom Line

Before we wrap up, let’s talk about another OpenAI update. Code Interpreter, a handy tool that allows Chat GPT to run code and access uploaded files, is set to be available to all Chat GPT Plus users in the coming week.

This feature enables users to analyze data, create charts, edit files, perform calculations, and more. OpenAI is continuously expanding the capabilities of Chat GPT, making it a valuable tool for developers and enthusiasts alike. Thank you, for taking the time to check in.
