The Last Human in the Milky Way is a novel about the future—the time we live in the middle of. We follow a group of people who are affected by the crisis in different ways. For some, it is an individual crisis, an existential crisis, or a cohabitation crisis. But many other people—the whole of society—are also in the middle of a more extensive crisis, a social crisis that can have large and dangerous, unmanageable consequences.
We follow Justin, the main character, from when he traveled as a young adult from his homeland in Europe across the Atlantic to North America, where he settled.
He gets to experience great love and becomes the father of a boy. Later, major and difficult events occur in his life, and he eventually ends up as a lonely, middle-aged man who is forced to leave everything once more to try to find happiness and meaning in life.
The nationwide social unrest and the strongly polarized events that characterize society create an ever-increasing feeling in the population of unrest and fear for what tomorrow will bring.
Justin and his neighbours in the village where they have sought to create a new, safe existence for themselves, the Milky Way, gradually realize as the unrest in society spreads that they are forced to leave the village.
As one of the last, Justin packs the necessary equipment and supplies in the car and sets off on a journey into the unknown.
The Last Human in the Milky Way is planned to be published as an e-book and paperback edition during 2024 or 2025.
