Life Lesson/Personal Growth/Spiritual Secret
The Laboratory Of Your Experience Is Pivotal
In the context of your spiritual & personal growth, be curious always.
I was reading an article by Bassey BY, a while ago, and it prompted this article. It is about the Africans and the megachurches. She was narrating how in some homes, their beliefs have been straight-jacketed by the Pastors of their churches.
Should that be so?
The history of megachurches in Africa actually started in the United States of America, which some were brought to West Africa, and has now spread to other parts of Africa and probably the Carribeans as well. They prey on the fact that an average black person is religious.
I want to chip it in this writing that it is pivotal to test our beliefs and have a strong conviction in the laboratory of your own experiment.
The Reason Why It Is Easier To Follow The Trend
If you follow the trend, there is no real deep thinking about why some things are as they are. You just accept that they are right and good and do what everyone is doing.
Following the herd is a lot easier than your own critical thinking.
I remember Salman Rushdie and the controversial book he published in the UK in 1988, The Satanic Verses. The then Ayyatolla Ruholla Khomeini of Iraq issued a ‘fatwa’, pronouncing a death sentence on Salman Rushdie. Most Muslims all over the world envisaged carrying out the threat, resulting in several attempts on Salman’s life.
The irony of it was that most of those who attempted to kill Salman Rushdie did not even read the book, nor bothered to know what his blasphemy was in the book. They wanted to follow the herd and they were ready to kill. This is the power of following the herd senselessly.
If you are able to diligently research each belief system, and convince yourself why you need to follow any, then you will be able to separate the truth from falsehood, reality from illusion, and be certain to satisfy your conscience in service to God and your fellow being.
